The Lakers need JJ Redick to continue growing on the job. Did he do enough of that in his second year?

The funny thing about that whole experience, according to Cranjis? He mostly agreed with what JJ said about organized offense! The guys talk about that, those processes that go into charting that information and how to balance organized offense with ... more

  • Draft question

What’s the difference between picking a player at the end of second round vs signing them as free agents at the end of the draft?

  • Question

Lowe said on his pod that FO execs around the league have declined Lakers assistant GM interviews because they’re wary of being tied to Pelinka. How can they compete with Boston & OKCs FOs if Pelinka is lacking/has major flaws and is radioactive? Walter has to see this as a giant problem/red flag, right?

  • Austin’s contract

Anthony—I don’t normally submit two of these in a week, but I just read Edwin Garcia’s article that Austin is expected to get a $40M contract. If that happens, write off the Lakers’ championship chances for the next 5 years. He is not a #2 on a championship team; he’s a good player, but has clear defensive deficiencies, is not a good catch-and-shoot 3-point shooter, and has been, at best, uneven in playoffs. If you invest #2 money in a #3 or #4 player, you’re dead in the water. What do you t... more

Appreciate your work and respect for your growth as a journalist. What do you think about a De’Aaron Fox for Austin Reaves sign-and-trade? Shooting downgrade but major defensive and athleticism upgrade. Not in love w/ Fox’s contract but think I’d rather pay him that kind of money opposed to Reaves. Thoughts?

Thank you as always for the great content. Very much admit to recency bias influencing this opinion but I feel the Lakers have to make an honest play at bringing LeBron back. He adapted when the team needed him to adapt and just carried the team to a playoff win. If he shows a desire to come back, Lakers need to sit down, explain their vision to make this team a serious contender and offer LeBron a contract that isn’t offensive but leaves room to execute that vision. One, you get LeBron back and... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

FULL: Lessons the Lakers must learn from these playoffs; Lottery reaction; MEGA MAILBAG
Q: Which center could or should the Lakers target?
Jared Allen is discussed as a sensible option due to his defense and lob threat, though Cleveland's cap situation and potential moves complicate a deal. The Lakers would need to part with multiple assets and potentially a first-round pick to lure him, while balancing their longer-term cap flexibility.
FULL: Lessons the Lakers must learn from these playoffs; Lottery reaction; MEGA MAILBAG
Q: Walk us through what the cap sheet will look like heading into next year.
The Lakers' books show LeBron's cap hold being substantial, Austin's looming raise and cap holds for Rui and Luke Kennard, with major uncertainty around Anthony Davis and the fit of a potential new center. There isn't enough space to bring back all key rotation players; the team will need to rely on exceptions and likely make selective trades to optimize the roster.
FULL: Rob Pelinka, JJ Redick preview critical Lakers offseason
Q: What is the Lakers' approach to the upcoming off-season and front-office changes?
The hosts and Pelinka describe a prepared plan with room for adaptability, focusing on drafting, trades, and free agency while expanding front-office infrastructure and player development.
PART 2: This summer's stakes on Rob Pelinka; Some live-breaking news
Q: Do you think AD would welcome a trade back to LA, or is that bridge completely burnt?
The host suggests there is no active resentment toward Anthony Davis and doubts the bridge is completely burnt, though there is relief among Lakers personnel about moving on from AD as a current option; any potential return would depend on timing and contract considerations, with a willingness to reassess if constraints and circumstances align.
FULL: MAILBAG - Lakers options if LeBron leaves; Anthony Davis bridge status; Red Flag Robby?
Q: What would LeBron leaving do for the Lakers' books, essentially?
Renouncing LeBron's cap hold could free up substantial space, but it requires timing with other decisions (Rui Hachimura's hold, Deandre Ayton, and Marcus Smart options) and may necessitate trading away or accommodating other core pieces; the host suggests potential space for one of Peyton Watson or Walker Kessler and discusses possible paths to keep Austin Reaves, depending on signing decisions.

Frequently Asked Questions About Lakers Lounge

What is Lakers Lounge about and what kind of topics does it cover?

A sharp, opinionated Lakers-focused show that often weighs blockbuster rosters and ownership-driven modernization against building depth and value contracts. Frequent discussions center on pursuing star power (notably Giannis) versus depth, the influence of cross-franchise ownership models (Dodgers-style) on front-office decisions, and the evolving use of analytics in a big-market environment. The hosts also tackle realignment chatter, trade mechanics, and the broader economics of assembling a championship roster, with guests and mailbag questions adding perspective on fan sentiment, media narratives, and franchise identity.
