唐寅和陳白陽皆為明代有名的文人、畫家，兩人經常一同出遊，並以對對子為樂。一日，陳白陽和唐寅來到一座花園，唐寅坐在涼亭裡，突發奇想便提筆寫道：

上一篇我們介紹了清代才子李調元幼時展現其聰穎才學的巧對小故事，今天要介紹的這副對聯，則創作於李調元到廣州當學政之時。據說在李調元前往赴任的途中，有位小書童想考考李調元的文才是否真如傳言般厲害，他在李調元必經之路，用石頭堆疊成石橋模樣，並在一旁等待。
過段時間，李調元乘著轎子經過此處，因為堆疊的石頭擋路，轎夫一腳把石橋給踢倒了，小書童假裝生氣上前和轎夫理論，李調元好奇究竟發生何事，於是便下橋勸解。小書童見到李調元，歡快地說道：「久仰李相公您的大名，聽說您善對，... more

香山四王府村有著幾百口人，但村里的水源卻十分缺乏，整個村落僅有兩口水井。一口井在街中心，而另一口井則位於大財主張伯元府上的花園裡。霸道的張伯元仗著權勢，硬是把街中心的水井填起來了，可憐的村民們如果想用水，便只能低聲下氣找他求助。
過了幾天，張伯元開放村民們到他家中取水，不過，他向前來挑水的村民收取費用，打算好好賺一筆。這下事態嚴重了，氣憤的村民們紛紛嚷嚷著要報官。張伯元左思右想，隔天便在水井旁貼出一個上聯：
