庆州吐含山下的佛国寺是韩国国宝，每年有数百万游客来到佛国寺，寻访寺内的佛塔、古桥。不过，我们今天所看到的佛国寺，大部分都是二十世纪朴正熙推动重建的结果。
1967 年，朴正熙视察佛国寺，见这座辉煌一时的新罗王室寺院，经过壬辰倭乱的焚烧、朝鲜王朝的抑佛、日占时代的掠夺，近乎残垣断壁，门楼摇摇欲坠，大殿破败不堪。
不久，佛国寺的发掘修复以最高官方规格启动。但在当时，学术界对新罗建筑的认识有限，发掘周期也仅有短短三个月。在考古工作漏洞百出、缺乏规划设计的情况下，重建工作仓促上马。

石窟庵是新罗王朝艺术的代表作。这座始建于8世纪中叶的石窟寺，与韩国「第一国宝」佛国寺同处庆州吐含山麓。与同时代的唐朝石窟不同，石窟庵用人工花岗岩堆砌而成，却完美再现了山中石窟的神韵。精美的雕塑艺术、卓越的建筑技艺，在同时代的东亚堪称杰作，如今更被视作韩国佛教造像的代表作。
