As someone who moved through many churches as a youth & who never really felt at home in the church, I am so happy to see such profound and sex-positive healing happening through a show like Sexvangelicals. I listened to their Banned Books episode featuring Deesha Philyaw, author of The Secret Lives of Church Ladies and was blown away by how deep and honest the conversation went. This show will heal so many people and I hope that those who have felt their sexuality controlled/stigmatized by the... more
So helpful to to my life, to hear from THE SEXVANGELICALS truth that Purity Culture did not have.
My only regret is not discovering this podcast sooner! Julia and Jeremiah have openly discussed and put into words the internal turmoil I have lived for the last 30 years. I discovered the podcast about a week ago and I’ve been obsessed. I feel like I’ve had so many lightbulb moments in 1 week than I have in 10 years of therapy. The difference is that no one understands a religious upbringing unless they’ve lived it too. Julia and Jeremiah totally get it.

I was a YWAMer in the late 90’s 2000’s. I NEVER heard this side of the story! I’ve heard Loren tell the story of later days ministry from HIS point of view! This is mind blowing! I’m looking forward to listening to the episodes on YWAM. I can see all of the disfunction now. It still felt comparatively better than most of my other experiences with Christian organizations. 🤦♀️
I discovered the podcast recently and largely appreciated the first couple episodes, but I was extremely disappointed to hear recent guest Zachary Wagner repeatedly refer to “the transgenderism question,” which neither of the hosts challenged or corrected.
“Transgenderism” is outdated, problematic language that stigmatizes the trans and gender nonconforming community. Framing acceptance of trans people as a “question” further enforces that we are somehow less than or other.
That is the langu... more

Engaging with themes of sexuality and personal empowerment, the content revolves around discussions on sexual health, relationship dynamics, and navigating the complexities of sexuality particularly among those from religious backgrounds. The hosts, both licensed sex therapists, often invite experts to address taboo topics such as pornography addiction, sexual pleasure, and the intricacies of open relationships, particularly for individuals who experienced repressive teachings within evangelical settings. The podcast likely serves as a supportive resource for listeners seeking to unpack their experiences and find healing in their sexuality and relationships.
