Grateful for so much inspiration and detailed narration of the life and word of Jesus Christ according to the orthodox tradition. Raised as a Catholic, listening to Dr. Jeannie has changed my faith for the better and has brought the word of the Lord close to my heart. A deep understanding of the history, the law of the times as well as the interpretation of the Fathers of the Church are provided for each verse, such a blessing, so much peace to my soul.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Apocryphal Errors and the Church and Ancient Interpretation
Q: Why would a woman be able to give a sermon in the Divine Liturgy, given Paul's writings on women and authority?
The host explains that in the early church women prophesied and spoke in tongues, and that preaching by lay women can occur with bishop's permission; the sermon is a teaching function, not a sacerdotal act, and it should be guided by ecclesiastical authority and tradition rather than a rigid interpretation of Paul's text.
Who Created the New Testament?
Q: Are there any differences between the Syriac Peshitta translation of the New Testament and the official canon of the New Testament?
The Syriac Peshitta was not recognized as an official canon of the New Testament in Orthodox Christianity, and it may have varied slightly from the common 27-book New Testament accepted in other traditions.
Who Created the New Testament?
Q: Dr. Jeannie, where does the Masoretic text come in relation to the Septuagint and the Jewish canon being closed in the year 200?
The Masoretic text and the closing of the Jewish canon occurred around the same time but did not have a direct association; the key discussions surrounding these canons were ongoing and complex.
The Jewish Scriptures and the Early Church
Q: How can someone new to the faith develop an Orthodox understanding of scriptures?
Through reading the scriptures, attending church services, and learning from the Church's teachings and traditions over time.
The Jewish Scriptures and the Early Church
Q: What translation would you recommend for reading alongside the Orthodox Study Bible?
There are many translations available, but it's important to choose a version that you'll read, whether it's more literal like the New Revised Standard or more readable like the New International Version.
