  • Complete waste of resources, airtime and oxygen

The facilitator Chapman has a massive right-wing bias, and the invited panelists are also strongly biased to the right. At least part of the problem is that Chapman has the attention span of a concussed goldfish and like too many other RNZ presenters is obsessed with entertainment trivia. The apparent intention was to have witty people have discussions about topical issues, but it fails because a: Chapman is always flicking on to the next item on his list, and b: well, the participants may aspir... more

  • Frustrating

Like the format of this show but am constantly frustrated by being unable to make out what Wallace says. He rushes his speech and is tripping over his words all the time. I don't have any hearing problem but I miss up to 50% of what Wallace says. Am also very disappointed and frustrated by the number of male guests who dominate, interrupt and talk over other guests, particularly female guests, when they've barely started speaking. It's rude and some of us want to hear what the other person was... more

  • A bit too politically obvious

I do miss Jim Mora. Under the new management the show too often displays an obvious lean to the left whereas Jim always seemed to chart a more appropriately neutral course.

Still worth a listen with that proviso.

The Panel with Denise L'Estrange-Corbet and Andie McCombs, Part 2
Q: What safety protocols does Howdy implement to protect users?
Mia discusses a strict reporting-based policy where users who are reported are removed from the platform, emphasizing proactive safety management and minimizing risk for vulnerable users.
The Panel with Denise L'Estrange-Corbet and Andie McCombs, Part 2
Q: What makes the Howdy dating app different from other dating platforms?
Mia Ryan explains that Howdy emphasizes meaningful profiles and local safety measures, avoiding the typical 'quantity over quality' approach and focusing on genuine connections, especially for people in remote areas.
The Panel with Michael Moynahan and Sue Bradford, Part 1
Q: Where in this budget is there anything that says, here's how we're going to stimulate growth?
The panel suggests there is not a clear growth-oriented vision beyond infrastructure; the emphasis is on discipline and savings, with growth ideas framed as longer-term and somewhat abstract rather than concrete policy pushes.
The Panel with Michael Moynahan and Sue Bradford, Part 1
Q: Tell me, off the top of your head, what would you nickname this budget?
A broccoli budget—promising some vegetables in the headliners while a lot of the substance (the greens and roots) stays back-loaded and uncertain, leaving questions about growth and real-world impact.
The Panel Plus for 25 May 2026
Q: Tell me, Louise, do we know where handshakes came from?
Louise Pryke explains that while the exact origin is not recorded, the prevailing theory is that handshakes emerged as a non-threatening way to show one's hands were free of weapons, which allowed safe approach and communication, a concept that has persisted for millennia.
