  • Jim mora

Jim’s program is the only thing I listen to on National radio. It feels like he still talks to the average New Zealander. His interview style is exceptional and he doesn’t seem to think he needs to score personal points but focuses on getting information people want to know about.

  • Best listening of the week!

Jim is a fantastic interviewer. I only regret that he moved from afternoons and we can’t hear him 5 times a week.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Murder and Mojitos: Gareth and Louise Ward
Q: How do you approach co-writing a book with both of you contributing chapters?
We write our own chapters and then edit each other's work to ensure the story remains coherent and true to both of our voices, always focusing on what serves the plot best.
Mike Munro: From press gallery to power broker
Q: Do you think there were more 'characters' in Parliament back in the day, and is there less of that now?
Mike notes a perceived decline in distinctive, charismatic figures today, attributing it to stricter party discipline and tighter media controls that dampen individual oratory flair.
Mike Munro: From press gallery to power broker
Q: How does the current political communications environment compare to earlier eras?
The guest argues that earlier politicians and press offices had more flexibility and direct access, whereas modern systems are more regimented, with greater control and focus-group-driven messaging that reduces spontaneity.
Mike Munro: From press gallery to power broker
Q: What made you so good that Jacinda Ardern brought you back to help her team?
Mike explains that he was a known quantity with established trust and experience of working with Jacinda during her rise, making him a natural fit for her inner circle and leadership transition in 2017.
Why do parrots talk?
Q: Why do parrots, for example, talk, do you think? Why do they mimic us?
The guest explains that parrots mimic as a way to communicate and bond with their human companions, effectively signaling affection and social closeness, and that some birds show more sophisticated capabilities beyond simple mimicry.
