Jim’s program is the only thing I listen to on National radio. It feels like he still talks to the average New Zealander. His interview style is exceptional and he doesn’t seem to think he needs to score personal points but focuses on getting information people want to know about.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Kitchens that dare to be different
Q: Here's a hard-headed question. If we're being judged by our kitchens now, would people judge us any more poorly if we kept the old bones and just modernized what needs to be modernized?
Caroline suggests an intentional approach: you can modernize hardware and appliances while preserving meaningful materials and stories, balancing longevity with a desire to retain character and memory in the kitchen.
Kitchens that dare to be different
Q: Can you elaborate on how kitchens have evolved from social spaces to display spaces?
Caroline describes how kitchens moved from a central social hub around a table to open-plan layouts that emphasize efficiency and display, often reducing human interaction in the space; imagery over tasks has led to a perceived distance in daily cooking.
Best Song Eva: Neil Finn
Q: What would you choose as the best song ever?
Neil Finn suggests Across the Universe, highlighting its melodic, emotional, and dreamlike qualities as near-perfect, acknowledging that no single song can truly be the best.
The latest from the Iran War with Mark Almond
Q: Despite what Donald Trump says about the Iran conflict winding down, what are your current thoughts on the direction of the war?
The conflict is enmeshed in a complex dynamic where escalation can occur incrementally, with credible missile and force movements that suggest a continuity of threat even if political rhetoric claims movement toward resolution.
Sir Ian Mune: celebrating a remarkable on-screen career
Q: You said you had an actor's brain; how does it function differently from the brains of the rest of us?
It guides my approach to roles by asking the same core questions, shaping how I observe, react, and adapt, and I've carried that framework into painting and other creative pursuits.
