  • Jim mora

Jim’s program is the only thing I listen to on National radio. It feels like he still talks to the average New Zealander. His interview style is exceptional and he doesn’t seem to think he needs to score personal points but focuses on getting information people want to know about.

  • Best listening of the week!

Jim is a fantastic interviewer. I only regret that he moved from afternoons and we can’t hear him 5 times a week.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Could Taupo have another supereruption?
Q: Getting to your work, what is the current understanding about how much warning we might have before a future Taupo eruption?
The current view is that there would be some detectable signals as magma begins to accumulate and as the system destabilizes, but predicting the exact timing and magnitude remains challenging; improvements in monitoring could provide more reliable warning than in the past.
Sir Dave Dobbyn at the Civic: 'It's like a church for me'
Q: How is your health with Parkinson's, and how does it affect your music and daily life?
Mornings are hard, but I pace myself, stay active through boxing with others with Parkinson's, and rely on humor and family routines to keep me moving forward; it's about maintaining a low level of fitness and a positive outlook.
Sir Dave Dobbyn at the Civic: 'It's like a church for me'
Q: But nevertheless, we consider you reasonably well qualified to assess this World Cup effort from Jelly Roll. What did you think of the song?
I found it to be an earworm that didn't quite fit the football vibe; it felt overproduced and more machine-driven than human, which didn't quite sit with the energy I expect from a football anthem.
Dr Jack Watling: The latest on Ukraine and Iran
Q: Is that your understanding? And do you see this as being an effective tactic for Putin?
Watling argues that this is largely a rhetorical ploy rather than a fundamental strategic shift, with Russia pressing to limit Ukrainian gains and possibly seek riskier moves like mobilization, but facing significant political and military risks that undermine a rapid breakthrough.
Are you washing your hair enough?
Q: When should someone consider medicated anti-dandruff shampoos and how do they work?
For dandruff, medicated shampoos containing selenium or ketoconazole can help, and using products with salicylic acid or selenium can address buildup and yeast-related dandruff, with specific guidance on leaving medicated shampoos on for about three minutes in the shower.
