  • I saw a few podcasts concerning obscure docs I love, that are rarely covered. I am now listening to all of them (even the music I may not be interested in).

  • Just the best

So grateful that a coworker tipped me off to this podcast! Funny, insightful, probing and unpretentious, it’s pitch perfect. For me, a rabid consumer of rock docs, discovering this podcast was like finding a 99-cent butcher cover at the local Goodwill. Keep on Chooglin’!

  • SO GOOD

Just discovered this recently (to my own embarrassment) and have been working through from current to past episodes. Was especially touched with the part one part two Devo episodes and the mention of Satisfaction, as I too heard the Devo version first before the Rolling Stones’. Strongly agree that for so many of us there was a before Devo, and after Devo formative reality. Really sweet and fact-packed conversations, not just with these two episodes, but again and again throughout the whole se... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

'BLARF: FILM SCORES FOR FILMS THAT DON'T EXIST' w/ Prateek Rajagopal
Q: How did you and Eric André come to collaborate on this project?
A USC connection through a professor led to an introduction to Ludwig Göransson's circle, and through that network Prateek met Eric André's team. They hit it off creatively, with Prateek's outsider-art approach matching Eric's surreal, boundary-pushing ideas, culminating in a collaborative album and live integration.
REVOLUTIONS PER MOVIE 150TH EPISODE: THE 1993 SEBADOH TOUR VIDEO VS. PANTERA'S VULGAR VIDEO w/ Lou Barlow
Q: On a scale of judging the Vulgar Video VHS tape, what would you most want to do with Pantera: drink with them, smoke with them, flat-out jam with them?
Lou responds that you do all three; the experience would involve taking in the full spectrum of the band's energy, from social interaction to backstage chaos, with the danger and intensity of the live environment shaping what you'd try to share or record.
'NIRVANNA THE BAND THE SHOW THE MOVIE' w/ Jay McCarrol
Q: How did you approach turning a road-trip concept into a cohesive feature film?
We started with a loose idea and then wrote on the go, shooting as we went, and letting the editors assemble the story from day-to-day footage; the process was iterative and highly collaborative, with the movie evolving as we lived with it.
'NEW WAVE THEATER' w/ Rob Zabrecky
Q: You've written about Peter Ivers and the mystery surrounding his murder. How has that aspect influenced your view of the era?
The guest reflects on the unresolved mystery and the way coverage and memory of Ivers' life shape how we remember that era, adding a haunting gravity to the era's creative energy.
'NEW WAVE THEATER' w/ Rob Zabrecky
Q: There's a recurring theme in your conversation about documenting moments. Do you think part of New Wave Theater's charm was its imperfect, documentary-like quality?
Rob agrees that the imperfect, chaotic charm—paired with moments of meticulous stagecraft—made the show feel authentic and ahead of its time, a rare glimpse into a vibrant, evolving LA scene.
