  • Jesus Christ, I'm 47 minutes into the episode and they've been talking about beer and comic books the whole time. They haven't even touched the band yet. I was excited to see a 3 hour podcast, I was expecting a lot of info and a couple of guys geeking out but now I see it's mostly off topic rambling.

How does anyone get through this?

  • A must

Incredibly researched. I’m more of a punk fan, over the years I’ve gotten deep into metal in large part because of requiem. Best music pod out there

  • Music nerdery of the highest caliber!

Public radio is getting what little donations I can afford at the moment, but least I can do is give these guys a good review!

It’s well-researched, it’s well-produced, it puts me on to bands and records I missed during the many many years in which I listened to very little metal.

Their encyclopedic knowledge of their subject and tangents seemed like too much when I first listened, but lately I’ve grown to appreciate them because their passion for metal is palpable.

Keep up the good work, gents... more

Tomas 'Tompa' Lindberg - A Testament Part 1: Live The Storm
Q: What made Tompa special within the world of Swedish metal?
Daniel describes Tompa's distinctive voice, emphasizing its influence on the Swedish death metal scene and how it was shaped by hardcore and punk inspirations.
Scandinavian Thrash with Daniel Ekeroth
Q: How does Bathory fit into the story of this at all?
Bathory is probably the gateway band into death metal. They had a lot of thrash, but also the image and also some of the song structures and riff.
Scandinavian Thrash with Daniel Ekeroth
Q: What were your thoughts on this trio of tunes before we kind of break it down a little bit more, you know, your impressions of the Hatred tunes?
Troops of Metal sounds like they were really relying on the cowbell a lot in the beginning. But lots of riffs, lots of changes, which is always entertaining back then. Good bass.
Agalloch Part 1
Q: Where do you see the impact that Agalloch had on the American metal scene as you look back over the last couple of decades?
Agalloch is seen as a catalyst for many modern metal bands, enabling them to comfortably draw on influences outside the traditional metal genres.
Deceased...
Q: What were some of the driving influences or goals that you sort of initially wanted to achieve as you were starting to construct that band?
We wanted to capture the raw metal vitality of the early 80s, to outthrash Slayer and write fast, intense music.
