Our friends Marty and Alan at the Heavy Metallurgy podcast challenged us to a duel, and we fire back. The idea was simple: Offer five different albums, any genre, to cover on an episode. Of their five, we chose the only non-metal album, the stunning,... more
Herein, you will find our tribute to Pan-Thy-Monium. Briefly covered in episode 2, we finally give this very special entity its due. We dive deep into the deeps of Raagoonshinnaah’s dwelling and emerge as awed and dumbfounded as ever.
Note I:

As noted early in this episode: we’ve always wanted to do an episode focusing on King Crimson, but couldn’t figure out the right approach. Until this idea, where we dissect and decipher all five parts of the band’s “Larks’ Tongues in Aspic” song cycl... more
No other band with roots in Swedish death metal did it like Comecon. Not even close. We find a few similarities to Carbonized, but generally, this band is unique, special, and underappreciated enough that we had to come to their rescue for a little o... more

If you’re open to discovering new extreme music, beard metal, alternative, Gothic, whatever, this is the place to go. Humorous, nerdy, mind blowing, unique. Look further, this is the best discovery channel for extreme music. Thanks a ton, Jeff and Hunter for your time and effort!!
Loving this podcast! Learning about new music always rules, but I come away from each episode with new ways to think about bands and records I’ve loved, hated, or was lukewarm on for decades (which for me has been just as interesting). Keep up the great work, gentlemen! Would love a deep dive into Cynic & Portal and anything else you feel fits the discussion :)
These two know the music they cover - and are not just metal fans. Both are knowledgeable about prog, classic rock, hard rock and more. They are also both musicians and have a deep understanding of the wheres and whys of the music they cover. And if you think these guys don’t know their metal, you really aren’t paying attention.
You discover a podcast with a host that knows EVERYTHING about the subject he’s talking about. The only problem is that most of what he covers you aren’t that interested in. BUT, the Fates Warning episode was fantastic, as were his book on the band and Peter Steele, so 5 star anyway. Hopefully he can cover some of the less obscure bands once in a while. Maybe a deep dive on Queensryche or Type O’s discography.
Episodes about weird metal, bass solos, cool synths - I'm in. I've valued Jeff Wagner's opinions for over 20 years, and I've come to value Hunter Ginn's equally. Fun discussions of obsessive favorites and plenty of things I never knew about.😈

Two knowledgeable hosts explore left-field rock and metal with deep-dive analyses, eclectic taste, and a knack for connecting obscure and classic scenes. Episodes thread together archival lore, personal collecting anecdotes, and thoughtful critiques of individual albums, bands, and movements—often weaving in prog-rock, underground metal, and cross-genre influences. Listeners likely value rigorous discussion, generous patience for nuanced takes, and a passion for discovery that spans decades of heavy music. A standout quality is the show's ability to balance scholarly insight with accessible storytelling, making it appealing to both devoted fans and curious newcomers who crave long-form explorations and specific recommendations.
