  • It’s ok

Gone downhill recently. I like most of the guests, but Ron has become extremely cynical and his theories are somewhat “out there.

  • Constructive feedback

Please help Lucy (guest host) learn the difference between being a guest and a host by asking simple questions. Her interminable word soups that go for 2 minutes are an answer masquerading as a question and it’s painful for both audience and guest.

Like a lot of recent reviews, I need to move on. I no longer believe this pod represents a balanced view, much more rah rah for Trump.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

ENCORE: Worthy of Protection—Part 1
Q: How accurate is this explanation of the fashion industry, especially its size, jobs, and economic impact?
The fashion industry is a massive, global ecosystem with a vast workforce, complex supply chains, and a fast-changing timeline that creates both economic value and environmental and labor concerns; understanding its scale helps in evaluating how IP and cultural signaling operate within it.
ENCORE: Worthy of Protection—Part 1
Q: What type of work does an intellectual property lawyer do now, and what drew you to fashion as a practicing attorney and then to academic research?
An IP lawyer works with a bundle of rights—patents, trademarks, copyrights, and designs—helping clients protect and leverage their creations through strategies, licenses, and litigation when needed. The appeal of fashion lies in its status as a dynamic, real-world laboratory where law, culture, and economy intersect, making it a rich field for teaching and research.
ENCORE: Worthy of Protection—Part 1
Q: Okay, let's turn to fashion as expression, as political. How does fashion act as a political expression and what concepts help explain it?
Fashion communicates identity and allegiance through signs and semiotics; items like color, silhouettes, and uniforms act as signifiers that convey belonging, resistance, or status. Semiotics explains how a simple garment can signal complex political stances and social groupings, sometimes more powerfully than words.
ENCORE: Worthy of Protection — Part 2
Q: How does AI threaten or aid the future of fashion creativity?
AI can forecast trends and even generate mood boards or designs, but this raises questions about authorship and originality; the guest argues for balancing AI-assisted tools with human creativity and IP safeguards.
ENCORE: Worthy of Protection — Part 2
Q: Can sustainability become profitable?
The guest suggests that profitability hinges on new business models and broader alignment of costs with sustainable practices, implying that fashion can be profitable if it internalizes environmental and social costs and leverages innovations in design and production.
