  • Julie S. & Episode 89

Someone in mentioned episode 89 and I agree that I cringed at the way the conversation about “saving ourselves” came across. I’m sure that is not how it was intended, but it definitely sounded off. The coaches are great, but they do not make good podcast hosts. Not sure what happened with Julie S. and when I inquired the only response I received was that she no longer works for LV&Co. She was a great host and I wish her the best. Regardless, I’m still a fan of the mission and I’ll continue to po... more

It takes a bit to process all the information and come to the conclusion what the next right step is. Our God is for us, we have free will, we have convictions, and we can still have a servant’s heart, even when everything is falling apart.

  • Yikes

In episode 89 the woman she is interviewing says “You don’t need anyone to save you” right after mentioning the church telling you that you need Jesus to save you (along with a man and other things). Leslie agreed. But that is not Christian teaching at all. Beware.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

When Conflict Feels Unsafe: How to Stay Open-Hearted Without Abandoning Yourself
Q: What should a listener do if their efforts to make their partner safer haven't worked yet?
Throw yourself into the process, practice open-heartedness with healthy boundaries, and be prepared to show up consistently; you can influence your environment and your own growth even if the marriage doesn't heal immediately.
When Conflict Feels Unsafe: How to Stay Open-Hearted Without Abandoning Yourself
Q: Forgiveness and open-heartedness—how do you discern Christ-like love from unhealthy self-abandonment in a faith context?
Open-heartedness must exist with boundaries; forgiveness doesn't require tolerating ongoing harm, and healthy boundaries protect dignity while allowing space for reconciliation only if the other person changes.
When Conflict Feels Unsafe: How to Stay Open-Hearted Without Abandoning Yourself
Q: Kelly, is there a moment in this pattern that you're describing in relationships, in the conversation, in the blame game, whatever pattern they're in, the dance they're in?
Yes. The moment that matters most is when you're dysregulated and take ownership for getting regulated again; that is the point where you choose to re-engage with openness or withdraw, which then shapes the rest of the interaction.
Boundaries, Overfunctioning, and Finding Your Voice in Difficult Relationships
Q: What's the first step in all of this boundary stuff?
Recognize that it's not your responsibility to change the other person; instead, decide clearly what you will do and what you will not allow in the space, establishing your boundary before addressing the other person's behavior.
Finding Hope in the Deepest Pain
Q: What changes do you hope to see in the courts and churches as a result of your advocacy?
She emphasizes safety-first approaches, mandatory training on DV and coercive control for judges, and churches offering non-judgmental support rather than pressure to stay in abusive marriages.
