  • Volume/Voice Feedback

Great podcast with great topics! Only feedback (minor) is that the main host’s (Rachel) voice often trails off at the end of her sentences and on certain words which makes it hard to hear and I end up having to make frequent volume changes. Please encourage her to level out the intonation of her voice for an easier listening experience. Thanks for all you do!

  • Diluted value

Bloated delivery of industry truisms and corporate speak packaged as insight, constantly interrupted by the host’s pointless, agreeable interjections.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

300: How policy whiplash is shaping healthcare: Live from D.C. with KFF’s Julie Rovner
Q: Given the volatility, where do you think the next big health reform fight could occur, and what would be the likely focal point?
Rovner suggests that while 2029 is a likely target for a major reform battle, the actual fight will depend on who has the political will and what fiscal or regulatory shifts become the anchors, with affordability and coverage remaining recurring themes.
300: How policy whiplash is shaping healthcare: Live from D.C. with KFF’s Julie Rovner
Q: First question has to be about the elections. Were six months out from the midterms? If control of the House or the Senate or both were to flip, where would that matter the most for health policy?
Julie notes that outcomes will influence committee control and, by extension, what kinds of health policy moves gain traction; however, the broader issue is how ongoing enforcement and budget decisions shape who bears the policy burden and who benefits, regardless of electoral results.
289: What are health systems doing in 2026? Results from our survey are in.
Q: What is your most recent research look like and what are the headlines you found so far?
The survey shows growth across volume, revenue, and margins but with a clear gap between revenue growth and operating margin; operational excellence and deliberate, scale-efficient growth are the differentiators. Health systems remain bullish on growth, prioritizing patient care and access, with service line growth as a key margin lever.
288: Health policy update: VBC, site-neutral payments, and 340B
Q: Chloe, where does 340B stand amid reform chatter and court activity, and what should providers do now?
Expect continued disruption and reform signals rather than a fixed path; monitor data collection efforts, participate in public comment opportunities, and use scenario planning tools to model potential rebate and discount changes, while watching state-level reporting requirements as precursors to federal policy shifts.
288: Health policy update: VBC, site-neutral payments, and 340B
Q: Nick, what should leaders focus on regarding site neutral payments and related site-of-care levers?
Understand the potential expansion to all off-campus hospital outpatient departments, the inclusion of additional services like imaging and procedures, and simultaneously prepare for ancillary policy shifts such as the inpatient-only list changes and CON reforms to support a coherent ambulatory strategy.
