Reviews

3.9 out of 5 stars from 47 ratings
  • Cool guests, horrible review

Listening to the podcast with Emil Amos…absolutely awesome except for the rambling interviewer. Man…just shut up and let your guest talk. Your insights are so surface level and not needed. How many times do you say “y’know?”>> it’s in the several hundreds.

  • Guests great / conversations should be more focused on guests

Great guests! Wish the focus was more on these guests instead of the host’s experiences/life. Less of the interviewer extending/contextualizing questions (just ask them directly) would also benefit the flow of the conversations and the show. Will follow the show and look forward to seeing how it develops!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Season 9 Ep. 04 - Rich Wilkes (Screenwriter/Director/Actor/Musician)
Q: How did you approach making The Stoned Age with a tight budget and short shooting window?
I leaned on autobiographical material, trusted a strong cast, and kept the production lean and fast; the structure and character dynamics were designed to maximize impact with minimal resources, which ultimately shaped the film's distinctive energy.
Season 8 Ep. #19 - Tim Rutili (Califone)
Q: So how is your relationship with like, just for example, like maybe like the press circuit, you know, releasing singles, releasing, you know, interviews or, you know, mentions in magazines or things of that nature?
The presence of social media has shifted the musician's role from simply creating art to also being a salesperson, which can feel unnatural.
Season 8 Ep. #15 - Sessa
Q: What were some of your early inspirations, kind of prior to becoming a musician?
Sessa shares his love for garage rock, soul music, and Brazilian music, mentioning influences like The Stooges and Roberto Carlos. He emphasizes how his interests have expanded as he delved deeper into music.
Season 8 Ep. #11 - Cass McCombs
Q: What were you most excited about working for or putting out Interior Live Oak?
He was excited to explore the intersection of modern life and mythology, using music as a platform to meditate on heroism in everyday life.
Season 8 Ep. #11 - Cass McCombs
Q: How does that process work for you?
McCombs reflects on keeping close ties with those who help him create music, though his memory of the past can be hazy.
