  • Great analysis

Solid analysis but the ads can be a bit much. Needs better editing around that

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

First Things First: Force Open Hormuz Strait
Q: If you were advising the administration, would you push toward militarily re-opening the Strait or seek a negotiated settlement first?
I would argue for a calibrated mix: use diplomatic avenues to the extent possible, but keep military options credible and alternative paths in play to avoid strategic paralysis; the Strait reopening could be a decisive factor in shaping negotiations without foreclosing peaceful options.
First Things First: Force Open Hormuz Strait
Q: So I wanted to start out with the statements that we get from the government—how much weight do you put in those, as you're weighing what's happening?
I treat them with cautious skepticism but also recognize that there is some meaningful signal in the statements; the president has a history of bold rhetoric paired with real actions, so I watch for consistency and whether the talk translates into verifiable steps, especially given Iran's strategic leverage over Hormuz.
The US Terror Threat Is Rising and We’re Not Prepared
Q: Does this strategy matter, or is it just another government document that people debate about and then move on?
While acknowledging that any strategic document signals intent, the guest contends that the strategy's framing, omissions, and the way it allocates resources will shape CT policy and actions for years, making it far from merely ceremonial.
The US Terror Threat Is Rising and We’re Not Prepared
Q: Can you get into what's different with this one than previous strategies?
The guest argues that the current strategy is overly partisan, lacks a clear operational environment, and fails to adequately address a broad spectrum of threats, particularly non-traditional actors and state-sponsored dynamics; he calls for a more comprehensive, interagency-driven approach.
How the Iran War Just Changed Global Power
Q: What should listeners watch for in the coming weeks?
Daniel suggests monitoring Gulf traffic and quiet approvals as a leading indicator of negotiation progress, while noting that private-sector tools like Insights provide real-time visibility into maritime movements.
