What a beautiful conversation on friendship and the practice of learning to be a good friend and how to make space for caring in the uncomfortable moments.

  • Another wonderful episode

I’ve just finished listening to the Christie Tate episode and wanted to say I loved it, thank you! Especially as someone who moved from the N to S hemisphere as an adult, I found it really beautifully touched on the work of friendship, the depth and intricacies of how friendships change and evolve, and also how we also change and emerge in the process. Here’s hoping everyone can encounter a Meredith in their lives. Another wonderful episode Elena, thank you

  • Enlightening

Listening to Elena and her guests is both uplifting and calming. It occurred to me after listening to several podcasts of hers, I am actually ‘practicing me’ in a better way. It’s helped me contribute to community in a more confident and well informed way. Elena’s kindness and authenticity that she shares is a rare gem.

In this podcast my take away is

Remembering what is my responsibility and what isn’t….. to go inward 90%…. People pleading recovery!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Episode 245: Dr. Lauren Tober
Q: Can you describe your book and its role in getting this work into more mainstream yoga communities?
Mental Health Aware Yoga is an introductory gateway that explains principles teachers can apply across any style of yoga; the training then deepens this work. The book aims to be in new teacher programs from the start, so teachers learn to support students with mental health challenges and to care for their own mental health.
Episode 245: Dr. Lauren Tober
Q: What has been the most gratifying aspect of your work so far?
The ongoing evolution of blending heart-based practice with rigorous, evidence-based approaches, and helping teachers show up with options, safety, and authenticity, brings the most joy and impact.
Episode 245: Dr. Lauren Tober
Q: And how does your training fill this gap? What exactly impelled you to start to fill this gap with your work?
Yoga is incredibly helpful for mental health, and research from Australia showed a large portion of practitioners use yoga to support depression and anxiety. The Mental Health Aware Yoga training is designed to integrate yoga with mental health education so teachers can support students and themselves without needing to be a clinical expert; it threads yoga with psychological concepts to create safer, more empowering classes.
Episode 244: Amy Kurtz
Q: What tools help people regulate their nervous system after illness?
A combination of therapies such as CBT, EMDR, somatic experiencing, and other nervous-system regulation techniques; the idea is to create a recovery plan rather than expecting instant improvement, allowing people to move from a survival default to a life that feels safe and in control.
Episode 244: Amy Kurtz
Q: Amy, talk to us about MTB and why it matters.
MTB is the psychological, emotional, and neurological impact of physical illness, representing the illness after the illness; many patients stay stuck in a trauma state even after they are physically better, and addressing it requires a structured recovery plan with nervous-system regulation and trauma-informed therapies.
