E139: Facing a Layoff, Career Exit, or Feeling Like It’s Time for Change? Reinventing Identity, Purpose & Work After 50
Q: How does one address ageism and stay relevant when transitioning to a crystallized-intelligence career?
Lean into wisdom, long-term perspective, and the ability to see big-picture outcomes. Build on strengths that AI cannot replicate, deliberately craft a mentoring or advisory role, and create opportunities that utilize accumulated experience in service-oriented ways.
E139: Facing a Layoff, Career Exit, or Feeling Like It’s Time for Change? Reinventing Identity, Purpose & Work After 50
Q: What advice would you give to someone who has been laid off and is trying to figure out their Encore Act?
Avoid rushing into the next role; instead, clarify values, why the change is important, and what kind of work will feel fulfilling. Use a mentoring and community-based approach, leverage weak ties, and design a hybrid life that blends purpose, income, and freedom.
E139: Facing a Layoff, Career Exit, or Feeling Like It’s Time for Change? Reinventing Identity, Purpose & Work After 50
Q: So talk a little bit about your thoughts on this: how do people begin reinventing themselves after leaving a corporate career?
The guest emphasizes starting with why rather than what, establishing clear purpose and non-negotiables, and building a structure that moves from a fluid to crystallized intelligence path, which allows for meaningful, value-aligned work rather than chasing titles or ego-driven achievements.
E135: Leading Through Adversity with Strength, Purpose, and Heart
Q: What practical advice would you give leaders facing their own difficult times?
Focus on your response more than the setback itself, maintain open communication with your team, advocate for your health, and lean on trusted mentors and loved ones to stay grounded as you navigate through uncertainty.
E135: Leading Through Adversity with Strength, Purpose, and Heart
Q: What role did your why and your family play in navigating this journey?
My why begins with my family; they give me purpose and accountability. I wanted to be someone my kids could look to for strength, and I aimed to demonstrate that perseverance in both life and work, turning personal trials into a source of mentorship for others.
