  • Fun and Informative

I always enjoy this podcast. I alternate between listening and watching (on YouTube) but never miss it. It addresses the gardening issues that we all face in our domestic gardens in a realistic way. It also celebrates the joy of gardening on a modest scale and frequently gives a fascinating insight to the people and companies that produce the seeds, plants and growing mediums we all rely on. In addition we get fabulous recipes to try: I’m definitely trying the carrot biryani!

  • Fun, Informative & Well Presented

I guess I would say that - but check it out, Martin’s knowledge is unassailable, and Jill and I have a good laugh chatting with Martin about all things gardens, gardening and anything related. Martin always manages to grab a great guest and Jill has some mouthwatering recipes to try for yourself. We’ve got a weekly roundup of what you should be doing in your own garden and more importantly, if you get in touch we’ll answer your questions too!

Creating New Vegetable Breeds, Fuchsia Flowering Question & Wisteria? Wonder no More!
Q: What can I do to get a fuchsia to flower again, and how should I care for it in the growing season?
Feed it with a high-potassium fertilizer (a tomato feed works well) from the first flower buds through the season, keep it in good light with regular watering, and remove faded blooms to encourage more flowering.
Royal Horticultural Society MBE Advisor, Bare Root Season, Water Butts & Gladioli in Winter?
Q: What's your dream job now and how did you come into it?
He describes moving from direct garden leadership to editing Curtis' Botanical Magazine and overseeing Trees and Shrubs Online, a role that combines academic editing with global plant knowledge.
Royal Horticultural Society MBE Advisor, Bare Root Season, Water Butts & Gladioli in Winter?
Q: How did you get into horticulture?
Grimshaw attributes his interest to early exposure in Sheffield, learning about native wildflowers and tending a family plot, which grew into a lifelong passion and career in horticulture.
Acer Burn, Camellia Siting Question, Deer-proof Rose Bush? What Grass Type for my Lawn & Chelsea Physic Garden
Q: Is there such a thing as a deer-proof rose bush, and what can be done to deter deer while protecting roses?
There isn't a truly deer-proof rose; deer, and rabbits, will eat young growth. Practical steps include temporary protective fencing or a cage around the plant when deer are active, and focusing on sturdy, older growth after the new shoots emerge.
Acer Burn, Camellia Siting Question, Deer-proof Rose Bush? What Grass Type for my Lawn & Chelsea Physic Garden
Q: Can you explain what makes Acer burn and how to prevent or recover from wind scorch on young leaves?
Acer burn is wind scorch on young, delicate leaves. The advised approach is to move potted Acer away from harsh midday sun and strong winds, keep roots moist, avoid letting it dry out, and provide shelter; with time, new foliage can emerge in the following weeks.
