  • Love it, wish there were more women guests

Enjoyed the first two Taylor Swift episodes a lot and this pod is a very fun occasional listen, I wish more of the episodes I listened to had women included in the discussion. Especially with the early years of Taylor Swift, having two men intellectualize what it was like for teen girls when TS came on the scene was missing something. I’d love if in the Speak Now episode you have a woman on who can speak to what it was like to be going through girlhood during the debut-Speak Now eras.

  • Great pod.

Great podcast and a great listen. The American comes across as a bit of a know it all’s but the Canadian seems friendly.

  • Fun, Smart, and filled with Great Guests!

I love this podcast so much. It is true balance between scholarship and entertainment. Louis has great banter with his guests and expresses his opinion so well - I strive to have his vocabulary and nuance! My favorite digest of cultural criticism. I feel like listening to this podcast is feminist praxis lol.

  • LOVE!!

When I used to commute to work by train, sometimes battling anxiety traveling alone, Pop Pantheon was always at the ready to listen to on the trip. I not only enjoyed and learned about music history from DJ Louie and many great guests (I find any opportunity to explain “poptimism” to ANYONE who will listen and see it as a critical way to discuss all pop culture), but found a safe head space when I needed it most. I support this podcast as well as I am able and hope it has many more years of crea... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Taylor Swift Season 1 Mailbag!
Q: Thoughts on her single strategies for Fearless but more so Speak Now?
I think Speak Now dips its toe into genre experimentation and introduces the idea that Taylor could make different kinds of music than the sort of like country pop of Fearless.
Taylor Swift Season 1 Mailbag!
Q: Could you see a world where she stayed in country music?
It was 100 percent inevitable that she crossed over to pop; it was just a matter of when and how.
Taylor Swift Season 1 Mailbag!
Q: What does Taylor's gay icon status look like if picture to Burns verse stays the same?
I think sort of basically the same, but Taylor Swift is in terms of A-list echelon divas, one of the least intrinsically geared towards gay men that has ever existed.
TAYLOR SWIFT PART 2: FEARLESS (with Stereogum's Tom Breihan)
Q: Is Fearless on the same level as Thriller?
Yes, it is.
TAYLOR SWIFT PART 1: DEBUT (with Rolling Stone's Rob Sheffield)
Q: How do you stay sane as a Taylor Swift observer?
Focus on the music as the core aspect while navigating the complex narratives.
