  • Great pollinator podcast!

This series has consistently had great guests talking about their work on a wider range of pollinator work than I knew existed. Production and audio has gotten better, and the questions from the host are deep. Plus I love his laugh. I’ve leaned a lot and hope to continue learning from this great show!

  • Attracting pollinators garden.

Really wish all plants mentioned were written down makes it easier to take notes. Kept rewinding trying to write them down on my notebook. Is there any link where I can find them? Thanks!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

298 - Wibee: A Simple App to Measure Pollination Activity in Your Orchard | PolliNation
Q: What have the validation studies shown so far?
Validation involved counting pollen grains deposited per bee visit and comparing that with Wibee-derived visitation rates to assess how well short snapshots reflect total pollen deposition and potential fruit set later.
298 - Wibee: A Simple App to Measure Pollination Activity in Your Orchard | PolliNation
Q: How do growers actually use the app in the field?
Growers pick a three-by-three-foot observation area on a sunny bloom day, watch for five minutes, and tap a morpho group as bees visit flowers; the app tallies visits by group to estimate overall pollination activity.
298 - Wibee: A Simple App to Measure Pollination Activity in Your Orchard | PolliNation
Q: Tell us about how the Wibee app was developed.
The app emerged from conversations with apple growers in Wisconsin who wanted to know if wild bees were sufficient for pollination or if honey bees were necessary, leading to a user-friendly system with simple morpho-group categories that non-specialists can identify.
292 - The Overlooked Hoverfly | PolliNation
Q: What is an ecosystem service?
An ecosystem service is defined by actions or behaviors of an organism that benefit the environments or humans, such as pollination and predation.
287 - The Bees of National Wildlife Refuges | PolliNation
Q: Can you tell us a little bit about the previous efforts to survey on the refuges?
The previous efforts, conducted by Joe Engler, involved a range of strategies and produced a significant baseline of bee populations across the region.
