  • Politics

I enjoy listening to podcast, and if I’m gonna listen to one about honeybees, I don’t care about your political views anymore than I care about a musician or basketballs players political views. I unfollowed after several snide remarks, such as whether someone is gonna lose their job or “disrupter in chief”. As a veteran, I find that extremely disrespectful regardless of your affiliation! Adios!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

[Bonus] Short - Inside the Ohio State Beekeepers Association with Jamie Walters
Q: What does it take to pull all this? How long ago did you start planning for this conference?
The planning starts in December each year with feedback surveys from attendees and vendors, and they begin actual planning in January.
Molly Quade: Fighting Varroa with Fungi (360)
Q: What are varroa mites doing in beehives during winter?
They are a significant pest that beekeepers need to manage, especially in the absence of effective miticides.
[Bonus] Short: The Midwest Honey Bee Expo
Q: Can you give us an overview of the conference and the number of days in the high level general track of the speakers and the educational programs?
It's a two-day conference with multiple speaker stages and workshops covering a wide range of topics suitable for all levels of beekeepers.
[Bonus] Short: The Midwest Honey Bee Expo
Q: Could either Doug or Bill, could you tell us how you came up with the idea and why you're doing it?
The idea arose from recognizing a lack of educational opportunities for beekeepers in the Midwest, leading them to create a larger expo with significant educational value.
Norroa: A New Era in Varroa Management (357)
Q: How do you feel about reversing hive boxes at the end of the season in preparation for winter?
It might make sense to do that reversal if temperatures are warm enough and there's nectar coming in, but I would be hesitant to disrupt the brood nest as it gets late in the season.
