  • Feels staged?

I normally like the politico podcasts but these ones often feel like Anne & Sam are just reading off a piece of paper? Sam a bit more natural but Anne sounds like she needs notes to know what she’s talking about. And the editing is so random. I can’t hear Sam/can hear Anne too loud etc etc I don’t understand why it’s so hard? Really annoying to turn volume up and down

  • Gone off this

I’m actually starting to think Sam isn’t a very nice guy/a bit toxic. Do your job but you don’t quite need to put such a negative/cynical view on absolutely everything, it’s tiring. Bit more policy please. And I thought this before labour got in btw.

    Anne is great though!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Morgan McSweeney on voters and discontent
Q: So you learned anything from practice that makes you think this would be conducted differently knowing what you know from media and politics?
The guest discusses that AI will alter campaigning by enabling highly tailored messaging and greater segmentation, which could undermine traditional national campaign narratives and require new approaches to maintain a sense of national interest.
Local elections: The pollster’s verdict
Q: What do you think is the most worrying trend for Labour as these local elections approach?
Labour is facing a broad-based headwind across regions, with waning enthusiasm among traditional voters and a sharper shift among more liberal, urban voters toward other parties, plus fragmentation of the unionist vote in Scotland and Wales that could undermine Labour's ability to form stable administrations.
Keir's cabinet: Who's left on the barricades
Q: What does the cabinet really think about the Mandelson appointment and the culture at No.10?
Darren Jones provides a nuanced view, acknowledging culture issues while insisting that the aim is to support the Prime Minister and get the job done, though there is clear tension and responsibility being parsed.
Has the threat to Keir Starmer receded?
Q: Do you think the threat to Keir Starmer has receded over the holiday period?
There's tactical maneuvering against those plotting for his position, but the core risks to his leadership remain significant.
Has the threat to Keir Starmer receded?
Q: How do you think we are with Keir Starmer?
There is a potential challenge to his leadership, but he is actively managing perceptions and risks, emphasizing stability.
