  • Editorialize Too Often

I love this show, but it is very frustrating when the hosts will, at times, insert their own opinions and then attempt to frame them as a question in a effort to force a response from the guest. I’m all about hardball questions, but I would prefer it if there was less editorializing on the part of the hosts.

If you want to know something about anything that happened between 2012 and today, which coincidentally was an extremely turbulent, politically fraught, and interesting period for our state…it’s almost certainly covered here.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Sam Page says ending 'Great Divorce' is popular. But getting St. Louis and St. Louis County together won't be easy.
Q: What was your reaction to Sam Page's surprise press conference a few weeks ago?
Blanner said the conversation is a good one to have and has roots going back to 2019, with chatter long present in the community about city-county governance, though not always with a clear path forward.
Congressman Eric Burlison wants the federal filibuster to look like the Missouri filibuster
Q: What's your reaction to Senate leaders like John Thune saying the votes aren't there?
The guest deflects to the importance of the debate process itself, suggesting that even without immediate votes, the talking filibuster could pressure the chamber toward compromise and reveal where members stand under public scrutiny.
Congressman Eric Burlison wants the federal filibuster to look like the Missouri filibuster
Q: OK, one more process question. So when you say that under this scenario, a senator could only speak twice, are you saying that if we're talking about the SAVE Act here, that's what you were referring to?
Yes, the idea is that each senator would be limited in speaking twice to encourage concise debate, with the possibility of negotiations and expedient moves on must-pass items, while balancing the risk of gridlock.
Congressman Eric Burlison wants the federal filibuster to look like the Missouri filibuster
Q: Why do you think that what is known as the talking filibuster would be better than the current way the filibuster is done in the United States Senate?
Burlison argues that a talking filibuster mirrors the Missouri model where debate can prompt negotiations, potentially forcing concessions and speeding up consensus, rather than a rules-based standstill that stalls legislation.
Trump dropped anti-interventionist stand on Iran – and Missouri senators followed
Q: What is your take on the War Powers Resolution's usefulness given the Iran strike?
Experts think the War Powers Resolution is largely symbolic and unlikely to alter current policy, though it can influence political narratives and serve as a symbolic check.
