  • Editorialize Too Often

I love this show, but it is very frustrating when the hosts will, at times, insert their own opinions and then attempt to frame them as a question in a effort to force a response from the guest. I’m all about hardball questions, but I would prefer it if there was less editorializing on the part of the hosts.

If you want to know something about anything that happened between 2012 and today, which coincidentally was an extremely turbulent, politically fraught, and interesting period for our state…it’s almost certainly covered here.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Missouri didn't join the post-Calias redistricting frenzy. But it might next year.
Q: What does the bill intend to change about St. Charles County school board elections?
It would move elections from April to November, extend terms from three to four years, and allow candidates to declare party affiliation on ballots, aiming to boost turnout and alignment with other major elections.
Christian Mitchell
Q: How is a deputy governor different from a lieutenant governor?
Mitchell explains that deputy governors are high-level staff with portfolio responsibilities, while the lieutenant governor is an elected constitutional role focused on being ready to step in and partner with the governor; the deputy governor oversees specific policy areas, whereas the lieutenant governor has broader, constitutional duties.
Wait, the Missouri Legislature had a ... 'normal' final week of session?!
Q: Could you summarize the key pillars of the Respect Missouri Voters Initiative?
The initiative aims to make ballot summaries clear and unbiased, protect the right to petition, and raise the threshold (80%) required for the legislature to alter voter-approved changes, making it harder to overturn voters' wishes.
Wait, the Missouri Legislature had a ... 'normal' final week of session?!
Q: What was the turning point around the previous question rules, and how did it affect Senate operations?
The rule change requiring 18 senators to sign a previous question effectively curtailed prolonged obstructive debating and led to a calmer Senate, though some members felt it reduced leverage for certain factions.
Wait, the Missouri Legislature had a ... 'normal' final week of session?!
Q: Sarah, why do you think the 2026 legislative session ended up being productive despite earlier expectations?
The session benefited from a focus on smaller, less controversial bills that still impact Missourians' lives, alongside a willingness to compromise and complete big agenda items from the previous year, all of which helped reduce partisan theatrics.
