  • Needed Precipitation

When I was in Georgia politics, the Atlanta newspaper supposedly covered the region “…like the dew.” By the time I left, the combined Atlanta newspapers were retracting in both areas of coverage and availability.

Thanks to this podcast, at least the important subject of Georgia politics is back, and now not just covering area like dew… it’s a nice spring shower of information, all over the world.

    Highly recommended.

Greg is very fair. He approaches hard conversations with respect. He doesn’t shy away from topics. He gives his guest space to express their opinion.

He should be hosting a tv show.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Will Georgia redraw its political maps before 2028?
Q: Lanny in St. Simons asks how the Supreme Court ruling on the Voting Rights Act changes Georgia and whether there will be another round of new maps.
The panel says a special session to redraw maps is likely, though probably not in time for the 2026 midterms, with political calculations about keeping or shifting power influencing the decision.
Will Georgia redraw its political maps before 2028?
Q: Fred in Avondale Estates asks how seriously Democrats and Republicans should take the Atlanta DSA's electoral strategy and whether the mainstream Georgia Democratic Party sees these candidates as allies or threats.
Hosts explain the strategy is complicated, with some DSA candidates challenging incumbents and others drawing enthusiasm from younger voters, while the party weighs loyalty to incumbents against the energy and diversity DSA candidates bring to the caucus.
Georgia’s Political Fault Lines
Q: First off, why run for Congress in a new district after losing in 2020? What did that race teach you?
Cowan says the experience showed the need for workmanlike legislators who are focused on substantive policy—health care, energy, and education—with deep district roots and a willingness to do the hard work, rather than seeking fame or showmanship.
Campaign Ads and Voter Signals
Q: Shani B. asks how much voters should read into turnout signals in Athens for JD Vance's visit and what it means for energy among younger voters in Georgia.
Turnout variability is influenced by timing, security concerns, and event logistics; it's a data point rather than a definitive trend, and should be weighed with broader turnout patterns.
Campaign Ads and Voter Signals
Q: All right. We'll start off with a call from Bob in Woodstock. He has a question about all these political ads he's seeing.
Ads are abundant and often focus on one-liners or attacks rather than explaining policies; listeners should check candidate websites and upcoming debates to understand priorities.
