  • Good pod, a bit posh

Quality analysis, quality thinkers! The posh pod within the selection of energy geek pods, if you’re someone who has a portfolio of those like me.

  • Content good but need media training

The topics and conversations are great, but the interviewers have not been properly media trained (e.g., DL saying “uh-huh” every 5 seconds is normal in real life but infuriating to the listener in a recording)

OIES Podcast – The complex challenge of coordination in liberalised and carbon-constrained energy systems
Q: What are the practical implications for regulators, system operators, and policymakers?
Policymakers need to reduce frictions in coordination, establish focal points, create clear energy pathways, harmonize protocols, and ensure transparent policies for equitable treatment of all stakeholders.
OIES Podcast – Rethinking Europe’s energy trilemma
Q: What do you think are some of the challenges you would associate with electrification and the security of grids and renewables?
The discussion highlighted concerns over the challenges of sequencing in transitioning to cleaner energy sources and the need for substantial investment in grid infrastructure and technology for a successful energy transition.
OIES Podcast – What Next for Oil Markets?
Q: What do you think is next for US shale?
The consensus is moving towards understanding that US shale might not see significant growth in the near term, with expectations of flat or declining production as the market faces geological constraints and low growth targets from producers.
OIES Podcast – What Next for Oil Markets?
Q: What do you think has been the main factors behind the decision to unwind these voluntary cuts?
The unwinding of voluntary cuts by OPEC+ has served to reveal information to the market about spare capacity and has shown that the concerns about surplus were misplaced, given that they haven't added back all the expected barrels.
OIES Podcast – Breaking Down the Bill: Electricity Price Components and the Design of Efficient Retail Tariffs
Q: Where should market reforms focus to bring prices down in the future?
The focus should be on the retail market to ensure competitive, granular, and cost-reflective tariffs, while also addressing upstream issues in wholesale and capacity markets to promote investments and flexibility.
