2月14日はバレンタイン・デー。キリスト教の聖人、聖バレンタイン（バレンチノ）の記念日です。恋人たちの守護聖人であるバレンタインにちなみ、今回はキューピッドが登場するバレエ≪ドン・キホーテ≫より、ドゥルシネア姫のヴァリエーションを取り上げます。作曲は、≪海賊≫や≪アレルキナーダ≫の音楽でもおなじみのイタリア人作曲家、リッカルド・ドリゴです。
バレエダンサーの登竜門として名高い、ローザンヌ国際バレエコンクール。今年も2月4日に決勝が行われます。若手の育成を目的に掲げるこのコンクールから世界へと羽ばたいていったダンサーは数え切れません。本日はそのお一人、吉田都さんに注目してお送りします。曲目はローザンヌの決勝で都さんが踊られた曲でもある、≪コッペリア≫第3幕の＜スワニルダのヴァリエーション＞です。

クリスマスシーズンに欠かすことのできないバレエといえば、≪くるみ割り人形≫。中でも、くるみ割りの王子に導かれた主人公クララが、お菓子の国に向かう途中で目にする＜雪のワルツ＞は、児童合唱の幻想的な響きとともにコール・ド・バレエ（群舞）の美しさを堪能することができる名場面です。
