  • Excellent Imformation

I appreciate the deep dives like the Lettuce growing series with Ray Tyler and the profitable mini farm series with Jodie Roebuck. This is so much better than a quick one session overview with someone! Keep up the good work!

  • Some great info, but…

So many episodes have great info, but it seems like every 3-4 minutes is yet another ad for Paper Pot Co. No variation at all, just so sick of the ad Spam! At least find some other sponsors to rotate through, please Diego!

  • Really well done podcast. I live next to a farm that is part of a CSA program. It is a privilege to watch the fields transform through every season. There were so many questions. I wondered how the crops were selected, pondered about distribution, hiring advisors and community outreach. This podcast served up quality answers from highly qualified specialists. Entertaining, easy to listen to and informative,

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Grants from the For Farmers Movement
Q: How do you determine which proposals to fund for the transformational grant?
Proposals are evaluated based on the farm's specific needs and story, with emphasis on practical impact, scalability, and community benefit, rather than just replicating what has been funded before; the team values authentic, detailed narratives and real-world feasibility.
Grants from the For Farmers Movement
Q: What was that transformation grant that you were talking about?
The transformation grant is a larger award option in the grant process that invites a smaller subset of applicants to apply, enabling more ambitious projects that can dramatically improve efficiency, infrastructure, or market opportunities, as illustrated by several farmer stories.
Some Profitable Market Garden Crops
Q: If they were in your area?
If you're near a market that values premium greens, prioritize crops that can be harvested repeatedly in short cycles (arugula, lettuce mix) and plan for steady rotation to maintain soil health and consistent supply.
Some Profitable Market Garden Crops
Q: If someone was going to start, what would you say? What crops should they start with?
Start with fast-turnaround greens like arugula and lettuce mix to build early revenue, then consider adding longer-season crops like broccolini and eventualmente carrots as you scale, balancing labor with market demand.
Some Profitable Market Garden Crops
Q: What are your most profitable crops?
The top earners are arugula, the arugula lettuce mix, and broccolini, with carrots also being significant due to large volumes, though labor-intensive. This mix accounts for a sizable portion of annual sales.
