  • Excellent Imformation

I appreciate the deep dives like the Lettuce growing series with Ray Tyler and the profitable mini farm series with Jodie Roebuck. This is so much better than a quick one session overview with someone! Keep up the good work!

  • Some great info, but…

So many episodes have great info, but it seems like every 3-4 minutes is yet another ad for Paper Pot Co. No variation at all, just so sick of the ad Spam! At least find some other sponsors to rotate through, please Diego!

  • Really well done podcast. I live next to a farm that is part of a CSA program. It is a privilege to watch the fields transform through every season. There were so many questions. I wondered how the crops were selected, pondered about distribution, hiring advisors and community outreach. This podcast served up quality answers from highly qualified specialists. Entertaining, easy to listen to and informative,

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Expectations from Humic & Fulvic Acids
Q: What differences should we expect between soils with high organic matter and soils that are more depleted in organic acids when using humic products?
Soils high in organic matter often respond better to foliar applications as a bio-stimulant, while soils lower in organic acids may benefit more from soil applications to improve nutrient availability and rooting.
Expectations from Humic & Fulvic Acids
Q: What rate do you suggest for applying liquid humate to compacted soil and over what period should this be done to see results?
A practical guideline is six to eight ounces per thousand square feet three times a year; you can also break it into smaller investments, such as two ounces every two weeks, depending on delivery timing and soil condition.
Is This Market Worth It
Q: How do you view the balance between one strong market and adding more markets later?
The guest notes that currently 80% of sales come from the existing market, with 20% from wholesale; adding midweek markets is contingent on whether it meaningfully increases sales without overburdening personal life.
Is This Market Worth It
Q: What is your baseline revenue threshold for considering a new market worthwhile?
The guest emphasizes that if a market won't produce a certain level of revenue, it's not worth the time, gas, and preparation; a concrete baseline like not going below a revenue figure is used to gate expansion decisions.
Selling at an Open Market
Q: Or is it more cooperative? Give me just a brief ins and outs of how that business operates.
Vendors manage their own inventory; I drop off goods, the market handles sales, and I receive payouts based on sales with simple inventory oversight and labeling support as needed.
