  • Good show

Two episodes in a row that once again, confirm the utter chaos that is the Portland Parks and Recreation system. Hoping people will be good humans and respect that other people want to book a site is not a realistic statement. Getting a reservation is pure wizardry. For 10 years I’ve been getting online at the exact moment the sites open up for booking and nothing is available. So now not only is it completely impossible to actually book a campsite in a reasonable amount of time, but it’s also g... more

  • Please press guests to prepare

Just listened to the Summer episode. Great idea. “Hidden gems” was deployed often, yet specifics were few. Guest recommends “get brunch, have a walk” or “walk PDX to find hidden gems” then names a place in their neighborhood as their “discovery”. Have a bit of experience guesting on podcasts and I would like to gently urge the hosts to ask their guests to prepare a bit, to come to the chat with some specific recommendations in mind (as the excellent hosts obvs do!). “Go to the coast, hike, eat s... more

  • Y’all?

Just listened to you latest podcast with the traveling while black couple. Sounds like they have a great channel and growing following. Why did you both feel like you had to say y’all the entire time speaking with them? You don’t on the pods. Wow.

  • Some fact checking would be nice

Really want to like this show, but it’s like the hosts do no research at all before talking about a topic. There are many simple facts about the ski areas stated incorrectly in the recent Mount Hood episode.

Morel season is here: How to forage for the delicious mushrooms in Oregon
Q: What should a beginner do to safely identify and collect morels without harming the ecosystem?
Harvesters should only collect where allowed, avoid private property or protected watersheds, and either cut or gently twist mushrooms while leaving the base to minimize soil disturbance. If uncertain, leave the specimen behind and consult multiple sources or an expert to verify, ensuring you don't remove fragile mushrooms that haven't released spores yet.
Morel season is here: How to forage for the delicious mushrooms in Oregon
Q: Where do you send foragers who don't have a secret spot, and how should they begin looking for morels?
Listeners should start by focusing on dry ground areas in late spring to early summer; look at eastern-facing slopes near Mount Hood and the Cascades, with crumbly, dusty soils and some ground vegetation like wildflowers to indicate soil warmth and moisture. If they don't have a known spot, pay attention to areas with pines, true fir, oaks, and madrones, and watch for microclimates where ground temperatures rise and mushrooms begin to appear.
Hiking in heels: How Drag Me Outside became Portland’s newest hiking group
Q: Is this mainly targeted at the queer community or a broader audience?
The episode indicates they are targeting everybody who is open-minded and respectful, emphasizing inclusivity and broad accessibility beyond just queer participants.
Why Lewis and Clark hated their winter in the Pacific Northwest
Q: Why didn't Lewis and Clark eat salmon while in the area?
Salmon runs were not occurring during the winter, and they relied on trading for food; they also needed the salmon for their own preservation.
Why Lewis and Clark hated their winter in the Pacific Northwest
Q: What was life like for the Lewis and Clark expedition during the winter at Fort Clatsop?
Life involved establishing a military routine with guard duty, constant hunting for food, and making clothing and supplies for the return trip.
