Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Paths of Practice with Pema Khandro, PhD
Q: What motivates your work at Dakini Mountain and the Buddhist Studies Institute?
A commitment to place-based practice and to bridging classical Buddhist scholarship with accessible, public-facing education for practitioners, ensuring that the tradition remains robust, rigorous, and relevant.
Paths of Practice with Pema Khandro, PhD
Q: How did your encounter with Momola shape your views on women in Buddhism?
The meeting was a life-changing, foundational moment that showed how a living teacher could embody the Dakini and illuminate the path in a way that deeply resonated with both scholarly inquiry and lived practice.
Paths of Practice with Daisy Lin
Q: What drew you to Mountain Cloud Zen Center and the Los Angeles Compassionate Heart Sangha, given your roots with Thich Nhat Hanh groups?
Mountain Cloud offered a structured meditation backbone with regular sits and a teacher-guided approach, which I valued after moving to New Mexico and seeking a community with a formal lineage. The LA group provided a peer-led, compassionate environment rooted in Thich Nhat Hanh's practices, offering different but complementary pathways to cultivation.
Paths of Practice with Daisy Lin
Q: Where would you say that your journey with Buddhism began?
Raised Christian, I found Buddhism during a time of personal crisis through a friend who introduced me to a sangha. The Sanha provided relief and support, eventually leading me to deeper practices with Zen and koans, and to a lifelong path of study and service.
Paths of Practice with Monica C. Mann-Wrobel, PhD
Q: What advice would you give to someone starting their Buddhist journey?
Expect a long, non-linear journey; change is gradual, not instantaneous. Be patient, honor your feelings, and recognize that mindfulness reveals both challenges and deep benefits, making self-compassion a radical act of care.
