  • This was a huge disappointment. I love this man but there are so many little jokes, and the crowd is just cackling along. Especially one particular lady who constantly laughs so loud, like it's the first joke she's ever heard. So anyway, we get to the end where it's finally serious, and he just gives this basic, run of the mill breathing exercise. Disappointing.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Ep. 252 - Self-Defense and Zen Buddhism with Shaolin Martial Artist Paula Lazarz & Vincent Moore
Q: How do you balance martial arts training with Zen practice in everyday life?
By treating martial arts as a path that trains the body and the mind together, and by integrating Zen principles like right speech, right intention, and compassion into teaching and practice, the two become complementary rather than contradictory.
Ep. 248 - Bringing the Dhamma to Africa with Bhante Buddharakkhita, PhD & Vincent Moore
Q: What kind of promotion or visibility would you like for your work, and where can people find information?
Bhante suggests focusing on education and the African Buddhist High School as a flagship effort, while directing support to Ugandabuddhistcenter.org and BuddhistPeaceSchool.org for donations and volunteer opportunities.
Ep. 247 - How to Cultivate Devotion with Trudy Goodman
Q: Somebody asked a question in a meeting. How do we cultivate devotion?
The host answers that devotion arises by opening the heart, making space for love and compassion, and repeatedly returning to mindful presence rather than clinging to self-centered concerns.
Ep. 244 - Sacred Connections: Healing in Community with Mirabai Starr & Rameshwar Das
Q: Could you open up more about the way your friendship has progressed and how you've deepened together?
Our friendship has deepened significantly through shared experiences of loss and spiritual practices, becoming a safety and support for one another.
Ep. 244 - Sacred Connections: Healing in Community with Mirabai Starr & Rameshwar Das
Q: Could you say something about what you understood from Ram Dass' distinction about the view from the soul versus the Vipassana equanimity?
The view from the soul is about seeing from a deeper place, which contrasts with the psychological distancing often seen in meditation. It's about not merely labeling but experiencing deeply.
