  • I find this Fortune woman a prime example of what has gone so terribly wrong with parenting in Ireland in the last 20-30 years.

It's worth a listen for the comedy value, but try rearing yer kids according to it at your own peril.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Parenting: 15 year old has social anxiety
Q: What should parents do to support a teenager with social anxiety while encouraging social connections?
Encourage gradual exposure to group activities outside the home, discuss the teen's interests to find suitable clubs or teams, and consider professional help. If therapy is pursued, initially having a parent accompany the teen can help with the first sessions and establish a sense of safety and trust with the therapist.
Parenting: Travelling with young kids
Q: What should a parent do when introducing a new partner to a child who is reacting with strong emotions?
Communicate with both ex-partner and child together when possible, acknowledge the change, reassure ongoing love, schedule one-to-one time, set gentle boundaries, and give space for the child to adapt without forcing the relationship.
Parenting: Travelling with young kids
Q: How should parents address a 14-year-old who is uncomfortable with being photographed or featured in family events?
Meet her where she is, accept her preferences, avoid pressuring her about appearance, and instead focus on celebrating her personality and interests while maintaining open dialogue to understand her evolving self-image.
Parenting: Travelling with young kids
Q: What is the best way to keep kids entertained on an eight-hour flight and decide between a morning or evening departure?
Plan a mix of low- and high-tech activities, bring familiar comfort items, snacks, and a selection of books and interactive toys; use devices judiciously, consider inflight movies, and opt for an evening flight if it helps the kids sleep, but be flexible and tailor to the child's routine.
Parenting: How do I distract my kids without using screens?
Q: Should she go back to the school at all, given the seriousness of the bullying?
If the behavior persists and affects safety, escalate beyond informal conversations with teachers. Engage the other parent if necessary, document incidents, and aim for direct conversations with the child involved, then seek a coordinated plan with school staff to ensure boundaries are upheld and your child feels safe.
