  • Engages in partisan politics too much

Love her industry interviews , but she engages in way too much partisan politics . Amazing how we can’t just stick to cycling which is a topic all of her listeners download her podcast for .

I honestly wish there was someone who was capable in cycling podcast space of doing this.

As such I have no further use for this podcast

  • Keep out the politics please.

At every opportunity the host injects her politics. I’m just tired of it.

  • The best all-around bike podcast

It is hard to find a solid, general interest bike podcast. I’ve learned about several large rides, tourist events, books, movies and tours thanks to Diane. Even found the right company to build my custom bike (Seven). What a wealth of knowledge from Diane - and even some racing or advocacy (which seems to dominate too many other podcasts). Thank heavens for The Outspoken Cyclist

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Outspoken Cyclist – 4/18/2026
Q: What is the three-part strategy to tackle e-motos?
The strategy consists of three integrated components: implementing better legislation to clearly define e-bikes versus e-motos, improving enforcement so authorities can accurately identify and regulate each category, and prioritizing education for consumers, retailers, and law enforcement to prevent misclassification and unsafe use.
Outspoken Cyclist – 3/31/2026
Q: Let's talk about the different classes of e-bikes so far. How have e-bikes been classified?
Hans Rey explains the three-class system (Class 1, Class 2, Class 3) and discusses the regulatory challenges, including how the lack of a consistent definition complicates policy, marketing, and trail access. He emphasizes protecting Class 1 (pedal-assist up to 20 mph) as the core bicycle category while acknowledging tensions from higher-powered models.
Outspoken Cyclist 3/13/2026
Q: Let's talk about congestion pricing for just a second. Any of those funds coming back to transportation issues like biking and walking?
Mostly not. Congestion pricing is earmarked for capital upgrades to the subway system, with limited direct cost sharing for biking and walking; the idea of a 'space dividend' comes from clearing space for pedestrians and buses, but the funds are not primarily redirected to DOT cycling projects.
Outspoken Cyclist – 2/25/2026
Q: What changes do you see happening in cycling teams this year?
There are notable transfers like Remco Evenepoel going to Bora-Hansgrohe, indicating a shift in team dynamics and strategies.
Outspoken Cyclist – 2/25/2026
Q: What does it mean to be a classic in cycling?
A 'classic' refers to a one-day race that is prestigious and long-established, particularly those on cobblestone roads.
