  • Sad

The opinions they share about public land policy are psychotic.

Not allowing people onto public land without them paying to enter it makes it not public land.. taxes (which I pay) fund a lot of this public land. Idiots.

  • Really enjoy the show.

No hardball questions, and never play devils advocate, but Rob does a good job.

  • The ads

The content is great, but the ads are obnoxious! Seriously the most ads of any podcast. Ridiculous! I can’t believe your advertisers don’t realize that everyone is fast forwarding through all of the ads. Don’t you make enough money on the ads in your paper? I have been a subscriber for over 25 years.

How about no ads and you hope that listeners support your paper?

Cracks me up every week when Rob wonders who might be on later in the show.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Episode 606 – Roadless rule, USFWS backs off drainage rules, Walz and BWCA, Citizens Council
Q: What is the proposed Citizens Advisory Council and how would it work in Minnesota?
The panel would be a governor-appointed, advisory body with broad representation across outdoor constituencies, operating with rotating terms and limited tenure to prevent bias, serving as a bridge to increase science-based input and public transparency before any policy-making powers are considered.
Episode 607 – Bluegills in Japan, wild rice, black bear preview, Doug Hartke, Ambler Road debate
Q: What are the key changes with the new electronic licensing system for bears?
There are no physical tags on the animal anymore, no telephone registration; licensing determines how you register, with paper licenses requiring tagging at home while mobile app users must pre-load data and sync after returning to service to complete registration.
Episode 607 – Bluegills in Japan, wild rice, black bear preview, Doug Hartke, Ambler Road debate
Q: What was the harvest last year for Minnesota bears, and how does it compare to the peak years?
The bear harvest last year was around 2,700, with the statewide record nearing 5,000 in earlier peak years when hunter participation was much higher and natural foods varied greatly.
Episode 608 – Federal duck numbers, new tool from onX, record bowfin, hunting season, Iowa pheasants
Q: Becky, how does the hub help someone with no experience to comment effectively?
It provides a simple, browsable map and dashboard, with summaries of proposals, agency involved, and closing dates, plus direct links to the official government portals to submit comments; the best input is specific, tied to the proposal with on-the-ground knowledge.
Episode 605 – Recapping Klobuchar interview, Alaska and Ambler Road, Outdoor Leaders, Leech Lake
Q: What makes Leech Lake's fishery unique and how are muskies being incorporated into the plan?
Leech Lake is diverse with muskies, walleye, and perch; muskies have been added as a primary management species, with ongoing studies on population and habitat use using new methods.
