Measuring the Value of Complex Care Programs to Families, With Families
Q: Great. And do you mind telling us a little bit about the methods that you chose and your key findings?
The researchers began with caregiver responses to identify valued aspects, then created items representing domains, used caregiver interviews to test relevance, and conducted a survey showing four domains—general satisfaction, caregiver well-being, family well-being, and medical care empowerment—correlating with existing measures like the PICS family impact scale and indicating good reliability and validity.
Measuring the Value of Complex Care Programs to Families, With Families
Q: If you could share a little bit about your study, starting with the gap you identified in your research aims?
There is a significant gap in proving the value of complex care programs to families beyond cost savings, so they developed a multi-stage measure starting with qualitative data to identify what families value, followed by item generation, cognitive interviews, and a survey to establish reliability and validity across four domains.
