  • Drawn in from the start

This was my first time listening to Brett and Gregg of Only Three Lads. I was engaged from the start of the conversation and they never lost me for entire hour and half. Their guests were insightful, informative and entertaining. I too was a young adult in the 1980's and some of my fondest memories revolve around the music of that era. Thank you Brett and Gregg for a fun-filled show that I will continue frequent, as I now have some music homework to do and look forward to leaning more.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

E327 - Bill Kopp (Author, What's The Big Idea?) - Top 5 Concept Albums...That Work Outside of the Concept!
Q: How did your interview approach influence the book's selections and structure?
Kopp describes focusing on albums where the artist could be interviewed, ensuring depth through direct conversations, and choosing 30 albums that demonstrated a broader spectrum of concept albums beyond traditional definitions.
E327 - Bill Kopp (Author, What's The Big Idea?) - Top 5 Concept Albums...That Work Outside of the Concept!
Q: Second to that, how did you decide which albums would make the cut?
Kopp explains the criteria included personal resonance, availability of the artists, and the ability to speak with the creators; he insisted albums had to move him personally and be manageable to discuss with the artist. He also wanted to show that concept albums can extend beyond the prog-rock mold and include diverse genres.
E326 - The SALT Collective's Stéphane Schück - Top 5 Do's & Don'ts
Q: What is the writing and recording process like with such a large, international lineup?
There is a core band and many contributors; music is written in a Paris studio, then demos are shared and refined, with back-and-forth feedback and sometimes many versions before a track is finalized.
E326 - The SALT Collective's Stéphane Schück - Top 5 Do's & Don'ts
Q: How did you start connecting with all of these musicians for The Salt Collective?
It began with a personal fan-level contact and a self-made approach: sending questions and receiving a taped vocal response, followed by visits and collaborative opportunities that grew into the broader network of artists.
E325 - Robert Deeble - Top 5 Songs About or Inspired by Literature
Q: Can you describe how literature has shaped your songwriting process?
Literature provides a deep well of imagery, themes, and characters that I draw on, sometimes cribbing a title, other times reimagining a plot, or weaving a literary concept into a song narrative.
