  • Jason Bailey & Mike Hull are back!

Great hearing the gang back together after a brief hiatus. Loved hearing the deep dive of Godfather II, which I hadn’t seen all the way through until last night, despite having seen the original multiple times. Look forward to more episodes.

Side note: I had to turn my volume way up with AirPods, not sure if it was a tech issue on my end, but I’m curious if anyone had the same issue.

  • I hope this master and commander

Series gets better, it would be great if some names and just general words were pronounced properly. Also Russell is part Māori.

  • Great podcast, bad sound

I really enjoy this podcast which goes into the most granular, deep dive of one of the greatest movies ever made, but my God the sound is awful and inconsistent from episode to episode. Some episodes the sound is so low I have to really crank the volume and then when a commercial comes on my ears are blasted into oblivion. I’m up to episode 46 and hoping they get the sound issues worked out in episodes to come. But, that all aside, it’s a really fun show with a very likeable host and guests, som... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

ONE HOT TAKE: Idiots w/ Jedidiah Ayres
Q: What drew you to Idiots as a follow-up to the director's earlier work?
Jed describes Blair's knack for focusing on marginal characters and social dynamics, making the movie feel like a natural extension of his broader themes about American capitalism and the consequences faced by the powerful and the powerless alike.
ONE HOT FEST: MARTIN MCKENNA ON WILDERNESS
Q: What was the experience of shooting in the volume stage like, and how did it affect your approach to performance and pacing?
The volume stage provided extraordinary control over the environment, enabling the team to craft landscapes that felt immediate and tangible while requiring the cast to adapt to a continuous, seasick-like sensation; it demanded careful planning but offered creative freedoms that are hard to replicate on traditional sets.
ONE HOT FEST: MARTIN MCKENNA ON WILDERNESS
Q: Can you describe how working with Yael Stone shaped the on-screen dynamic and the backstory you built for their characters' relationship?
Yael was the first to be cast and immediately expressed a passion for the project, which helped anchor the on-screen chemistry. The actors developed a rich off-screen backstory and worked to mirror their real-life connection, enriching their on-screen interactions during the crisis moments.
ONE HOT FEST: MARTIN MCKENNA ON WILDERNESS
Q: Martin, what made Mira Fawkes the right choice for Allie and how did you guide her through the unpredictable emotional arc?
Mira was always in consideration due to her depth and age-appropriate experience; she had a strong connection to the material and was enthusiastic about returning to acting after some time behind the camera, bringing a leadership quality that helped carry the demanding scenes.
GUIDE FOR THE FILM FANATIC: "The Adventures of Robin Hood” with Dan Mecca
Q: How does this Robin Hood influence later adaptations in your view?
The hosts and guest talk about the lineage from Fairbanks to Flynn to Costner, noting how Attitude, swordplay, and the portrayal of heroism shape subsequent versions, as well as the way the film's iconography informs modern action-adventure aesthetics.
