  • Jason Bailey & Mike Hull are back!

Great hearing the gang back together after a brief hiatus. Loved hearing the deep dive of Godfather II, which I hadn’t seen all the way through until last night, despite having seen the original multiple times. Look forward to more episodes.

Side note: I had to turn my volume way up with AirPods, not sure if it was a tech issue on my end, but I’m curious if anyone had the same issue.

Series gets better, it would be great if some names and just general words were pronounced properly. Also Russell is part Māori.

  • Great podcast, bad sound

I really enjoy this podcast which goes into the most granular, deep dive of one of the greatest movies ever made, but my God the sound is awful and inconsistent from episode to episode. Some episodes the sound is so low I have to really crank the volume and then when a commercial comes on my ears are blasted into oblivion. I’m up to episode 46 and hoping they get the sound issues worked out in episodes to come. But, that all aside, it’s a really fun show with a very likeable host and guests, som... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

GUIDE FOR THE FILM FANATIC: "Billy Jack” with Nathan Rabin
Q: Nathan, what is it about Billy Jack that leapt out at you from the Guide For The Film Fanatic collection?
Its unapologetic, personal vision and the way it fuses counterculture, education, and action into a raw, idiosyncratic movie that defies easy genre categorization, making it endlessly fascinating and deeply influential.
GUIDE FOR THE FILM FANATIC: “Five Fingers of Death” and “Enter the Dragon” with Grady Hendrix and Chris Poggiali
Q: Why these two films in particular when we sent you this list, why were these the ones you wanted to talk about?
Five Fingers of Death kicked off the martial arts craze in the United States in 1973, and Enter the Dragon built on that momentum, both serving as essential anchors for the book's broader arc on how kung fu cinema came to America and evolved in the public imagination.
ONE HOT TAKE: PROJECT HAIL MARY w/ Katie Walsh
Q: What did you think of Project Hail Mary?
I like it. It's a nice movie that's well made and has a lot of fun energy; I'm glad it's an original film that's doing well financially, though I find the ending a bit disappointing.
GUIDE FOR THE FILM FANATIC: “Splendor in the Grass” with Aisha Harris
Q: What film did you select for us to discuss today, Aisha?
Aisha chose Splendor in the Grass, highlighting its unwavering focus on teenage longing, parental pressure, and the fragility of young love, while praising its enduring relevance and performances.
GUIDE FOR THE FILM FANATIC: “The Song Remains the Same” with Kristen Lopez
Q: What film, Kristen Lopez, did you select from Danny Peary's Guide For The Film Fanatic to discuss with us today?
I picked 1976's Led Zeppelin, The Song Remains The Same.
