  • Why so formal?

All the co-presenters and guests seem to always repeat “Sir Richard” through the shows. Surely after the first introduction just Richard would be fine? Or does he insist on it? Anyway, it sounds ridiculously stuffy and formal in 2026. Otherwise the podcast is quite informative.

  • Trita Parsi? Really?

This used to be a great podcast and then they suddenly had the Iranian regime operative Trita Parsi on. Whoever asked for that man to be brought on should be fired. Sadly, no longer a listener.

  • Unreasonably biased

I used to enjoy the podcast, but lately it has become so biased and pro Trump that it saddens me to hear Sir Dearlove speak.

The podcast is no longer an unbiased honest look at world events, but has turned into a “what Trump does is never really wrong. “ That concerns me a lot and that makes me not want to listen. A real shame…

  • Dearlove increasingly political/odd

I’m starting to find the barely concealed political radicalisation of Sir Richard Dearlove ruins the show, which I’d previously enjoyed. Openly pro-Brexit and pro-Trump but in a way that minimises the negative impacts of either of those populist projects as if no one should think it matters for national security. Why don’t the Greenlanders just take cash from Trump to become a US colony? Why is everyone talking about sovereignty? Surely as an ardent Brexiteer he should value the rights to self-d... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Losing Sight of Iran's Revolutionary Character Has Cost the West, ft. IISS Expert John Raine
Q: What makes striking a formal deal difficult at the moment?
There are deep strategic issues—nuclear, missile programs, regional power projection, and Gulf security—that are hard to resolve within a single框 deal, and many of these issues have been delayed to keep the missile program and force projection separate from immediate operational concerns like opening the Straits of Hormuz.
Losing Sight of Iran's Revolutionary Character Has Cost the West, ft. IISS Expert John Raine
Q: What's the difference between a memorandum of understanding and a deal in this context?
A memorandum of understanding is a lighter, less binding document that outlines heads of terms and can be reached more quickly, but it lacks the detailed implications and strategic value of a full binding deal that addresses the core interests of Israel, Iran, and the US.
The Undersea Contest for Control of the Global Economy, ft. Journalist Samanth Subramanian
Q: Why hasn't there been a better, less vulnerable technology at scale to replace or supplement subsea cables?
The combination of enormous data demand, political and logistical challenges, and the deep-sea environment makes it extremely difficult to deploy an alternative that can match the capacity, reliability, and cost-effectiveness of fiber cables; satellites like Starlink can help in emergencies but cannot replace the bandwidth of global cables.
The Undersea Contest for Control of the Global Economy, ft. Journalist Samanth Subramanian
Q: How do you describe the scale of the issue and what's at stake with subsea cables?
The cables carry the vast majority of international data, meaning that any interruption—whether deliberate or accidental—can cripple economies, disrupt everyday digital life, and alter geopolitical dynamics, which makes them a strategic vulnerability that nations, corporations, and individuals should be deeply concerned about.
After Maduro: Who's Running Venezuela Now?
Q: How legitimate is the current government in your eyes?
The guest outlines multiple layers of illegitimacy tied to the 2018 Maduro re-election, the opposition's participation or non-participation, and the Supreme Court's interpretation, which collectively place Rodríguez in a precarious, legally unsettled position.
