  • Oncology Brothers: Setting a New Standard in Medical Education

The Oncology Brothers have become a go-to in my week. They take the constant firehose of oncology data—new FDA approvals, shifting algorithms, and “practice-changing” abstracts—and turn it into something practical I can actually use in clinic the next day. The conversations feel like sitting down with smart colleagues who care about evidence, clarity, and real-world decision making, not just reciting trial slides. It’s exactly the kind of thoughtful, high-yield education our field needs more of.... more

Thank you so much for putting this together! Love the updates of ongoing research! I am the primary caretaker for my 79 year old dad who was diagnosed 6/24 with stage IV CRC MSS KRAS G13D TMB-H, so love your GI updates from ASCO ‘25 and subcutaneous nivo, which we are considering. Hope you do more like bot/bal and neodadjuvant single cycle pembro. Thanks for taking the time to do this!!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Evolving Treatment Landscape of HER2+ Upper GI Cancer
Q: What is the current standard of care for frontline HER2-positive GEJ/gastric cancer in metastatic settings?
Chemo plus trastuzumab remains standard, with the addition of pembrolizumab for PD-L1 positive tumors; the horizon data with Zanidatamab suggests a potential shift if approved, possibly favoring Zanidatamab-containing regimens.
Open Evidence as an Artificial Intelligence (AI) Tool in the World of Medicine
Q: What changes can we expect in the next year or two regarding EMR integration and trial matching?
The team plans to integrate Open Evidence with EHRs to surface evidence-based treatment recommendations and trial opportunities directly in the workflow, including nuances like somatic alterations and variants of unknown significance to guide trial eligibility.
Open Evidence as an Artificial Intelligence (AI) Tool in the World of Medicine
Q: How is the data we input used, and is advertising on the platform influencing responses?
Open Evidence uses an ad-supported model with strict protections: they do not share raw query data, do not train generative models on incoming data, and maintain red lines to protect user data, while displaying ads related to oncology topics.
Open Evidence as an Artificial Intelligence (AI) Tool in the World of Medicine
Q: What is an LLM and what makes Open Evidence different than other existing LLMs like ChatGPT, Perplexity, or Grok?
An LLM is a system that can interact in human language, but Open Evidence differentiates itself by using a tightly curated set of medical sources and a Retrieval Augmented Generation framework to restrict data sources and prevent hallucinations, focusing specifically on oncology and licensed content.
How to Treat Renal Cell Carcinoma (RCC) in 2026 – Dr. Katy Beckermann
Q: What is your frontline strategy in de novo metastatic disease when multiple regimens are available, and how do you decide between IO/TKI combinations and IO-IO or TKI-based regimens?
Frontline decisions balance speed of response, tolerability, and disease burden. Often IO-plus-TKI regimens are chosen for broader disease biology coverage and rapid responses, while IO-IO may be favored when rapid durability is desired; IMDC risk also guides prognostication rather than direct treatment choice in some scenarios.
