  • The Episode We Didn’t Know We Needed! - Hunting Public Land in Kansas

This episode really hit home. As someone who hunts public land in Nebraska, I can 100% relate to the struggle they talk about. I’m based out of Omaha, and like a lot of public-land guys, I’ll pick spots loaded with Open Fields and Waters and CRP on the map, only to show up and realize the cover looks like a pool table — lifeless, over-grazed, and poorly managed.

I’ve had plenty of days where I’ll drive 3+ hours, hop between 15–20 different spots, and maybe two of them are actually huntable, som... more

  • 328 is exceptional

I love the podcast and there are so many great episodes, but the discussion and sharing crippling loss numbers is probably my all time favorite

  • How is it possible?!

How is it even possible for a podcast supposedly focused on conservation and helping the resource going to put out an episode title “Indiana on the Rise”?!? Should’ve just named it “we are hot spotting hypocrites.”

I don’t even understand how that’s a choice when planning your content. Unacceptable. The episode should be taken down and QF should send an apology for everyone that lives in and hunts in Indiana.

  • Audio

Echoing what’s been said. Content is top notch. I’m a huge fan of all things QF and PF. The audio levels however, make it almost unlistenable. Can hardly hear calm portions but then ya’ll get excited abd blow my ear drums out. And not to point any fingers but BOB, your voice fluctuations are the worst 😂😂. Otherwise, keep it up.

EP. 366: Working on a New Farm Bill and CRP Improvements in D.C.
Q: What did Mikayla and the Upland Caucus discuss with elected officials in DC?
They focused on CRP and related Farm Bill programs, aimed at educating staff and senators about conservation needs and securing improvements in CRP within the Farm Bill.
EP. 363: Hands-On Habitat: Restoring Texas High Plains for Upland Wildlife
Q: Can you tell us a little about how the Hands On Habitat event is organized and what made this weekend exceptional?
The event grew from a one-day workshop to a two-and-a-half day weekend through collaboration with Amarillo and Plainview chapters, adding student involvement and a broader range of activities like monarch monitoring, plant identification, quail surveys, and a strong emphasis on landowner engagement; it was exceptional because of the turnout, the diverse activities, and the integration of education with hands-on habitat work.
EP. 360: Quail vs. Turkey Habitat Secrets Every Landowner Should Know
Q: Sarah, final words for landowners listening who want to manage for both quail and turkeys?
The final thought emphasizes disturbance-driven habitat work: implement fire, rolling, thinning, and other habitat manipulations to create open, heterogenous landscapes that benefit both species, with quail often the more sensitive indicator species.
EP. 360: Quail vs. Turkey Habitat Secrets Every Landowner Should Know
Q: Do turkeys push quail out of hatch? Have you witnessed such interactions or competition?
No, turkeys do not generally depredate quail nests; the observed quail declines tied to habitat succession rather than direct turkey competition. Turkeys are more plastic and tolerate various habitat conditions, while quail require specific early-successional structures.
