#82 - Former D1 Captain Adam Cecere Reveals What Gets Players Recruited [VIDEO]
Q: What are the top three traits every founder needs?
Consistency, listening, and unwavering confidence, with an emphasis on persistent daily effort, being open to feedback, and maintaining self-belief as you grow.
#85 - What No One Tells You About Signing a $5.5M MLB Contract at 18 with Jacob Turner
Q: What advice would you give to a top young player about building their team around money management?
Build a trusted off-field team led by a financial professional, an attorney, and a wealth advisor. Keep the inner circle small and professional, avoid fan entourages, and learn to say no when necessary. The right people can protect you from expensive mistakes and help you leverage opportunities for long-term wealth.
#85 - What No One Tells You About Signing a $5.5M MLB Contract at 18 with Jacob Turner
Q: How did you approach your signing bonus and the taxes and residency implications at 18, and what would you tell a young player today?
We treated the signing money as potential long-term wealth, not instant spending power. We set a target number, used a realistic BATNA (college), and prepared for taxes and residency early. The takeaway is to secure a plan with tax optimization and residency considerations before the money hits, so the first checks aren't followed by financial regret.
#85 - What No One Tells You About Signing a $5.5M MLB Contract at 18 with Jacob Turner
Q: What was the draft experience really like for you, and how did it shape your career decisions?
The draft was an intense period of uncertainty met with strategic guidance from trusted mentors. We had a plan, pursued it aggressively, and used that plan to negotiate a signing as close as possible to our target while keeping a fallback option (UNC) in place. It showed the power of preparation, discipline, and having a clear BATNA that kept leverage in negotiations.
#74 – Harvard Baseball Recruiting Secrets: How to Play D1 AND Succeed After College [VIDEO]
Q: How important is a player's academic index and what factors contribute to it?
Academic index is crucial in Ivy League programs; GPA, SAT/ACT, APs, and course rigor all contribute to a sliding-scale target.
