Yes. I begin knowing at least the director's sensibility, and I write with that voice in mind. When I know a director's personality, I tailor tone and pacing so the material naturally fits their strengths, while preserving the core story.

Q: Can you talk about the eight-pound rainbow filter and how such a small tool made a big impact on a huge production?

It was a creative, cost-effective solution that yielded distinctive rainbow flares and directionality. It showed that simple gear, used thoughtfully and in context with the scene, can define the look and motif of a large-scale film.

Q: What was the Greig Pass and how did it affect the production on set?

The Greig Pass was a workflow where we would shoot with the intention of freeing up the shots after the main takes, allowing for more expressive lighting and performance, and it helped align the director's and DP's visions.

Q: When did you first realize that the camera and lighting are inseparable from storytelling, not just decoration?

Early on I understood that cinematography is about serving the story; I trained myself by studying films and realizing that the image must push the narrative forward, not merely look virtuosic.
