Can stand the repeated “Master master” you somehow sound pompous and self conscious simultaneously.

  • Brilliant.

    I am biased as::

    1. This was one of the first podcasts I ever started listening to. I really appreciate that it isn’t just reviews and it focuses on general discussion and pondering the broader ramifications and details of board gaming.

    2. I have been mentioned a few times. I entered the rhino hero song contest, submitted a question for the 300th episode, and I was even allowed to come onto the show!

    3. As years have gone on, I have become increasingly familiar with the hosts. I have still ne... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

OBG 590: Player Counts
Q: Tell our listeners, Joe, where they can find you if they so desire.
Joe Slack points listeners to crazylikeabox.com for his games and boardgamedesigncourse.com for design resources, highlighting his focus on sharing practical game design guidance and showcasing his current projects.
OBG 588: Balance
Q: Is balance essential in all cooperative games, or should some games prioritize story over mechanistic balance?
Cooperation can still be satisfying when balance is tuned to create meaningful group challenges; some players prefer lighter, story-driven co-ops where balance is not rigorously enforced, while others want tight, fair competition even in cooperative settings.
OBG 584: Small Box Big Fun
Q: So tell us, you did leave out one key piece of information about yourself, and that is that you have a new game, Wine Cellar, that is out and available as well.
Wine Cellar grew from a personal passion—it's my first published game, built around wine knowledge, accessible auction mechanics, and a compact 18-card origin that later expanded to support more players. It was designed to be portable and approachable for both wine lovers and gamers, with tasting notes on cards to inspire real-world exploration of wines.
OBG 570: Winning
Q: What was your experience at the award ceremony like?
It was surreal and emotional, especially when our name was called, with lots of congratulations and excitement among our teammates.
OBG 570: Winning
Q: How did winning the Kennerspiel des Jahres impact your game and company?
It has driven significant demand and excitement around our game Endeavor Deep Sea, with multiple reprints scheduled and new partnerships forming.
