Off-Grid

Before each recording, the hosts & their guest solve a cryptic crossword. In the podcast, we riff on words in the grid or clues (spoilers!), telling each other things we find funny or interesting about them. We'll also pick a favourite clue each, and explain how it works to the listener, and have a mini-quiz, also inspired by the puzzle. You don't have to solve or understand cryptic crosswords you... more

  • Fun for curious people

If you’re a curious person who likes curious connections, this podcast is a great time. Cryptic crosswords are only the jumping-off point — it’s all about tangents and deep dives into the most entertaining places. Puzzle people are the perfect guides on this kind of trip. Highly recommended!

  • Fun with words

One of my favourite podcasts. The format works really well - it starts with a cryptic crossword selected from one of the national dailies, but that’s just a launchpad for some fun trivia-based chitchat inspired by three favourite clues and three talking points from the crossword. Void, Dave and The General always seem to find plenty of interesting things to discuss, and they do so in a very engaging and entertaining way. It’s entirely inconsequential but that’s probably one of the things I like ... more

  • 10/10!

What a brilliant listen! Susie Dent meets No Such Thing as a Fish in this lively, light-hearted podcast based around wordplay. Perfect for fans of weird and wacky trivia, puzzles, and free association. And the best part is you don’t need to know a thing about crosswords — it’s just as fun whether you’re a season veteran or a puzzlephobe. Can’t recommend it highly enough.

  • An interesting take on anything and everything

This fun, interesting podcast takes as its jumping-off point a cryptic crossword, though you don’t need to be versed in such things to go along for the ride. All subjects are discussed, connected by a common thread that is a love of knowledge, language, and life. The perfect balance is struck between intellectual stimulation and light-hearted banter.

  • I have fun every fortnight

…of course, I’m one of the hosts, but we do it because it’s always fun to chat to The General. Don’t be scared to give it a go - it REALLY IS not-really-about crosswords. :-)
