What have you tried so far to quit porn? Accountability buddies, talk therapy, internet filters, church or religious programs, or mindfulness techniques to 'get rid of cravings'… Many of these have merit, but they're often missing key elements for long-lasting sobriety. • If This Doesn’t Work, Then….

Jake Kastleman’s podcast may help you get out of a porn addiction. If so, great! But it didn’t work for me.

I listened to this podcast for a solid 6 months in 2024. Took notes. I tried to turn the ideas into a recovery plan. I would inevitably relapse. This didn’t work for me. What did work for me was the Beyond Compulsion Academy. I wish somebody had of told me about the BCA earlier. So, if this podcast doesn’t work, look up Beyond Compulsion Academy. It likely will.

  • A firehose of hope and victory

From the moment any episode begins we are provided a sense that victory is in our future! Jake amazingly doesn’t confuse poetry with practical steps. Instead he beautifully communicates solid, moving, reverent help. I am victorious over lust, and repeatedly return to this show like an athlete returns to his Gatorade cooler on a hot day.

151: Why So Many Men Struggle to Love, Connect, and Feel Their Emotions | The Hidden Roots of Addiction and Relationship Pain (With Dr. Eddie Capparucci)
Q: What skills are commonly lacking in Western society that hinder emotional maturity?
He notes that many people lack the ability to slow down, read and respond to others' emotions, and regulate their own emotions. He emphasizes practicing emotional regulation daily and moving away from self-protective, fix-it responses toward attunement and presence.
151: Why So Many Men Struggle to Love, Connect, and Feel Their Emotions | The Hidden Roots of Addiction and Relationship Pain (With Dr. Eddie Capparucci)
Q: What is the core issue behind why men struggle to love and connect in relationships?
Dr. Capparucci explains that for many men, addiction like porn is a coping mechanism for deeper emotional distress rooted in childhood attachment issues. The key is to develop emotional regulation and a healthier inner life so men can be present and empathetic with their partners.
149: The Real Reason You Feel Disconnected From Your Wife | How Avoidant Men Often Marry Anxious Women, and Reversing The Cycle That Destroys Relationships With Tyler Patrick
Q: Why do you think so many men feel emotionally disconnected from their wives even when they still love them, and what shifts can help in those moments?
The disconnection often stems from a combination of shame, fear of vulnerability, and a habit of measuring self-worth by performance and control. A shift comes from changing the internal identity—who you want to be as a partner—while practicing presence, empathy, and boundary-setting, which gradually rebuilds trust.
149: The Real Reason You Feel Disconnected From Your Wife | How Avoidant Men Often Marry Anxious Women, and Reversing The Cycle That Destroys Relationships With Tyler Patrick
Q: A lot of guys find themselves, not every guy, but what percentages of avoidant vs anxious dynamics show up in your work, and what might that look like in numbers?
In practice, the avoidant partner often steps back to protect themselves, while the anxious partner pursues more, creating a dance that can flip between the two. With addiction layered in, the cycle intensifies as denial and shame push both sides toward less healthy patterns, but with conscious work you can begin to shift toward secure attachment by changing how you respond rather than merely disclosing more.
