All the information and guest are so informative on all the topics they discuss! As a self described deer management nut doing all this for 30 years on my own it’s great to know I’ve done things like the pros and the certified wildlife biologist! Always good to refresh my memory and learn new things! Keep up the good work

  • Great diversity of guests!

I enjoy hearing the views of wildlife biologists.

Being a science major myself, I took as many wildlife biology and ecology classes as I could in school and feel that I view deer from more of a scientific point of view than many people that I hunt with. I have heard all of the “myths” and “wives tales” from many hunters, but have also seen actions by the DNR/Fish and Game that I don’t necessarily agree with. I think it is interesting all of the contradictory points of view on various behaviors ... more

Talking Deer and Habitat Management With Jeb Burton of Crossroads with the Burtons
Q: What is your opinion on shooting does, especially when they might be pregnant?
Shooting a doe at any time, whether pregnant or not, results in the same outcome since the offspring she would have had will not be on the landscape. It's better to manage doe populations early in the season if needed.
Talking Deer and Habitat Management With Jeb Burton of Crossroads with the Burtons
Q: What does create a deer movement?
Deer movement is largely driven by photoperiod and the length of daylight hours rather than temperature or moon phases, with increased movement observed as breeding season approaches.
Techniques for Hunting the Rut and Beyond With Michael Perry
Q: What factors do you consider when planning your hunting trips?
Perry explains the importance of e-scouting and looking for travel corridors and pinches in both Alabama and Kansas.
Techniques for Hunting the Rut and Beyond With Michael Perry
Q: How has your season gone so far?
Michael discusses taking a doe and his ongoing buck hunting in Alabama, mentioning a Kansas hunting trip where he had a successful hunt.
Which Weather Factors Influence Deer Movement With Dr. Duane Diefenbach
Q: Did you look at varying levels of rain, or as far as a heavy rain, if a heavy rain would impact movement more so than just a light shower?
We found very little impact of rain on how far deer traveled, except that males were less likely to move in the rain compared to females.
