  • I've listened to naked scientists and naked genetics for over a decade and it is consistently a balanced and exceptional quality program. Accuracy is always to priority, and the delivery of the program is well thought through. I wish I could say the same of other pod casts including the often inaccurate and offensive BBC Science Hour, but with show like Naked Genetics you've got what you need

  • Best genetics podcast out there!

I have been searching for a great, well informed but still enjoyable podcast on genetics. I’m a biology student and though I’ve taken many genetics and evolution courses, I’m still learning a great bit! I LOVE the monthly genes that get discussed!

  • Don’t know how this doesn’t have 5 stars!

I’ve listened to the 3 most recent ones. As a doctoral student in genetics, I’ve still learned quite a few things and received some interesting insights from then podcast thus far. I hope it comes back!!!!?

  • Come back!!

This was one of my favorite podcasts! It provides a digestible overview of some of the most important news in the (very broad) realm of genetics. The host, Dr. Kat Arney, is grounded and engaging.

I think this podcast is best for folks who have a basic working knowledge of genetics, and an interest in “pop science!”

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Debunking 'junk' DNA
Q: Given that your area of research is based around rare diseases, what do you think these areas of non-coding genes are actually responsible for?
The research identified a non-coding gene called RNU42 responsible for a neurodevelopmental disorder known as RNU42 syndrome, which affects tens of thousands worldwide.
Debunking 'junk' DNA
Q: What do we now know then, when we compare the two DNAs, and what insight does it give us as to when humans started to domesticate them?
The research has revealed two main domestication events for different groups of cattle derived from ancient auroch populations in Europe and Asia, providing insights into human domestication practices and timelines.
Is vegetarianism genetic, and the penis-eating spider
Q: How does the genetic predisposition relate to taste and environment?
Shivani explains that genetics interacts with metabolism and the environment, influencing dietary choices like coffee consumption.
Is vegetarianism genetic, and the penis-eating spider
Q: What are the impacts of a study on vegetarianism and genetics?
Shivani discusses the importance of environmental concerns and health implications related to diet choices driven by genetics.
Testing for genetic diseases, and bats with big penises
Q: How do different genes interact with aging?
Genes change response and expression as we age, often resulting in shorter genes becoming more active, which can affect lifespan negatively.
