  • Great Information

Brian- Thank you for an incredible job with your podcast. These are educational, insightful, fun, and PACKED with useful information about the farrier world. I especially like hearing the little tips all your interviewees have to offer, especially in the “Stratum Tectorium” section. Overall, I love that I can drive down the road feeling like I’m sitting in the same room with these legends in the farrier world and get to know them. Awesome podcast. Thank you so much.

Farrier Major Paul Jones AWCF
Q: How did you end up transitioning from frontline service to becoming a farrier?
After a serious tour in Afghanistan and an injury, the path toward working with horses emerged as a way to apply leadership and practical skills in a different, maintenance-focused environment, eventually leading to a formal farrier role.
Farrier Major Paul Jones AWCF
Q: So what inspired you to get into the military in the first place, to sign up?
A large family with a long military tradition and the sense that at 16 you become a man, so joining the military felt like a natural path and a way to grow up with purpose and discipline.
Andrew Casserly FWCF
Q: How did you become a horseshoer in the first place?
He describes how a forging encounter in childhood sparked his interest, meeting a mentor who taught him the trade, and embarking on a four-year apprenticeship that set the foundation for his lifelong career.
Forge Smart with Tom Smith FWCF
Q: What strategies do you recommend for implementing price increases with clients?
The recommended approach is a consulted process: discuss upcoming price changes with clients, then inform them with a clear, fact-based explanation and a written notice, avoiding apologetic language while highlighting the value delivered.
Forge Smart with Tom Smith FWCF
Q: What is Forge Smart and why did you create it?
Tom describes Forge Smart as a long-form pricing program born from his experience with a business coach who helped him challenge limiting beliefs, quantify value, and structure a path from where Farriers are to where they want to be, with a focus on sustainable pricing and work-life balance.
