Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

From the Diamond to the Director’s Chair: Danielle Josetti’s Journey
Q: Could you describe some leadership roles you've held within Marquette Athletics and how they shape your approach to governance and athlete development?
Danielle talked about serving as sport administrator for multiple programs (men's lacrosse and volleyball) and leading broader responsibilities within the department, acting as a liaison between coaches and the athletic director to problem solve and support program success.
From the Diamond to the Director’s Chair: Danielle Josetti’s Journey
Q: Danielle, do you think the portal and NIL dynamics can get out of hand with players transferring every year chasing money, and how do you counsel your athletes at Marquette?
It's a balance between opportunity and long-term fit. We emphasize holistic, four-year planning, the importance of culture, and the role of education and trusted advisers (agents and financial literacy) to help players think beyond immediate money.
From the Diamond to the Director’s Chair: Danielle Josetti’s Journey
Q: Okay. So your job at MU is wide-ranging, but I want to kind of get into the compliance portion of your responsibilities and the NIL thing. In Wisconsin High School Sports now, in high school, they now have a bare bones form of NIL, but how does it kind of affect your job and compliance at the college level?
The NIL landscape changed dramatically in 2021. It brought more flexibility and new work to manage, but also required building a dedicated NIL path with a full-time GM to navigate contracts, sponsor deals, and education for student-athletes.
Balancing the Books and Building the Future: Mike Bark’s MUHS Roots
Q: What inspired you to start your own accounting firm?
He pursued the CPA path after seeing the FBI's hiring of accountants and later found a rewarding balance between running a firm and staying involved with local sports.
Serving Up Leadership with Joe Coplan
Q: Do you see yourself returning to Marquette High or seeking other opportunities in the future?
Coplan explains his path was gradual and rooted in alumni ties to Marquette, along with a genuine desire to contribute to the school culture and student success; the move felt like a natural fit rather than a forced decision.
