  • I loved the idea of this podcast. Unfortunately, the follow-through was not as good as I hoped. They do discuss movies, but rarely help me understand the way the movie either supports or critiques capitalism. The episodes are long (they start with about 15 minutes of the hosts discussing their personal lives) and the payoff is weak. Such a shame, because it's a great concept.

  • Worth a listen

Great intro to otherwise unseen films. Neither host is quite as familiar with movies or capitalism as to be authoritative, but both offer valuable insights. The hostility towards Woody Allen is I’ll-considered, wilfully ignorant and reactionary. Their hearts are in the right place, nonetheless.

  • Everything I want in a podcast

Frank and Rivka strike a perfect balance between talking fun and entertaining topics, while also addressing current events and politics. They play well off of each other, have good insights on film and the world, and are self-aware in a way that I find extremely relatable.

She expresses doubts about Christmas, showing critical thinking and is the one who brings the Grinch back into society.
How the Grinch Stole Christmas
Q: Why did you choose 'How the Grinch Stole Christmas'?
I was curious to see if there was anything more complex than the sort of clear anti-consumerism that some people associate with it.
Cinderella Man (w/ Ron)
Q: Why did you pick Cinderella Man to discuss on this anti-capitalist podcast?
I really enjoyed the movie and think it leads to interesting discussions about not just the Great Depression, but how individuals respond to it and how society should respond to it.
They Shoot Horses, Don’t They? (w/ Shannon Amabile)
Q: How does this movie connect to modern reality TV?
It mirrors the modern desire to witness suffering for entertainment, where reality TV contestants are often seen as disposable for the sake of viewership.
