I loved the idea of this podcast. Unfortunately, the follow-through was not as good as I hoped. They do discuss movies, but rarely help me understand the way the movie either supports or critiques capitalism. The episodes are long (they start with about 15 minutes of the hosts discussing their personal lives) and the payoff is weak. Such a shame, because it's a great concept.
Great intro to otherwise unseen films. Neither host is quite as familiar with movies or capitalism as to be authoritative, but both offer valuable insights. The hostility towards Woody Allen is I’ll-considered, wilfully ignorant and reactionary. Their hearts are in the right place, nonetheless.
Frank and Rivka strike a perfect balance between talking fun and entertaining topics, while also addressing current events and politics. They play well off of each other, have good insights on film and the world, and are self-aware in a way that I find extremely relatable.
You will never get me to dislike Ghosbusters.
But yes Venkman is super creepy.
The host are very knowledgeable and take for me, a new look at movies and the messages they send. Easily my favorite podcast. Entertaining, newsy, and fun.
