  • Recipe for a good day

This podcast is my secret weapon to start the day off right. It feels more like a trip to Filoli for my ears than a gardening podcast. The crunching of the gravel, Willa’s description of what she’s seeing, and the casual conversation style draw the listener in to feel apart of the experience. Mornings in Filoli is as informative as it is charming, and leaves me with a sense of inspiration to take on the day.

My only complaint is the frequency. I would love more!

  • Walking the dog

A right foot to start the day is so important to me. Every so often I tune in for the latest episode, AirPods of course, and am delighted to get my brain kickstarted on the hobby of gardening that I will, some day, undoubtedly pick up. Until then, I’m delighted to learn and hear from the experts. Gentle, relaxing, eloquent, and best served with a morning coffee while walking the dog through my sleepy neighborhood.

    More please.

  • Love this podcast!

I learned about this podcast and was excited to listen since I have visited Filoli several times in the past. This podcast is a winner starting with the great voice, manner and knowledge of Interpretation Manager Willa Brock. The sounds of the birds, the crunch of the pebbles and other nature sounds sets the mood. Willa has a delightful quality to her as do all the horticulturists and others at Filoli who obviously love their work. From learning about the history of FIloli, getting gardening t... more

Seventeen Syllables
Q: Aileen, how did you get started as a poet?
Willa describes that Aileen came to poetry later, through necessity and migration, finding a community of mentors that helped her see poetry as a mode of conversation with uncertainty and grief and grace.
Wonder in the Woods
Q: How does Rose Wonders influence the way visitors interact with Filoli's landscape?
Her presence encourages visitors to slow down, observe closely, and engage with the space through play, exploration, and questions, helping both kids and adults see the garden with fresh eyes.
Wonder in the Woods
Q: What was the most challenging part of getting Rose Wonders on site at Filoli?
Coordinating with donors, obtaining permissions, and arranging a big crane for installation, all while dealing with rain during the install week, but eventually the team found a way to make the permanent piece a reality.
Indigenous Landscapes
Q: Well, thank you for being with me this morning. I think we got a lovely morning for it. I'm wondering if you can kick us off with a little introduction of who you are and what the Association of Ramaytush Ohlone is all about.
Gregg Castro explains his lineage, role as Culture Director, and the Association's sacred obligation to steward the land and its living relatives, emphasizing a gift-based relationship with the landscape rather than ownership.
Bonsai and Beyond
Q: What varieties of begonias do you plant from seed?
We love begonias. They are planted starting in late winter or midwinter for summer planting around Mother's Day, primarily focused on color longevity through the summer into fall.
